The Bay Horse

Full of character with great food and friendly excellent service. It was our monthly girls lunch and the first time we had been to The Bay Horse. We squeezed the car through the narrow arched entrance into the small rear car park where there is a lovely outdoor garden area for sunny days. Inside the atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the decor very tasteful and beautiful. Not the cheapest menu (although there was a cheaper lunchtime specials option) but the reward is a varied and interesting gastronomic delight. Service to order in the busy and popular restaurant means a wait between courses but we ladies appreciate the chance to have a leisurely lunch and prefer that to being rushed through a meal. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and I, for one, will certainly be keeping The Bay Horse on my list of favourites.

Great service and lovely food. Very pleasant experience. Went for mums birthday and the setting and atmosphere were lovely. The Sunday lunch was delicious and plentiful.

Had a gorgeous meal and the service was excellent. Relaxed atmosphere with an exquisite menu which definitely wouldn’t disappoint. I had the scallop, venison and elderflower parfait and they were each in their own right amazing. Will definitely be back.

We enjoyed a pre dinner drink in the bar area. An excellent array of wines were available by the glass. The menu was varied. I opted for a quail starter which was perfectly cooked for such a delicate and small meat. Beef main which simply fell apart and melted. The dauphonoise potatoes were to die for. Highly recommend the shared desert platter which allows an ample amount of a variety of deserts to share between 2. Highly recommended...

Yet another outstanding meal served by knowledgeable staff in a very relaxed atmosphere. It is always a pleasure to eat in The Bay Horse, Hurworth on Tees.

Excellent food, quiet background music and well-mannered staff. The portions were probably sensibly sized (but if you're a gut-bucket like me, order some side dishes too!). :)

Far too expensive for what it is, tiny portions, it’s one of these places that is blowing smoke up its own arse. What we had was delicious but not enough of it.

Excellent meal, had the Sunday special, starter mackerel, main belly pork & choc mousse dessert, my partner had soup( the best soup she had ever tasted)chicken & also the choc mousse. The service was excellent too, I haven’t been for a good few years but will certainly be back sooner than the last time.

This was our second visit to the Bay Horse and the food was just as good as the first visit, very well presented and tasted delicious, the service was very good too.

Fantastic Meal last night. One of the best meals my husband and I have had for a while. Worth the 45 min drive for us. We will be back! The free glass of fizz to celebrate there 10th birthday was a lovely touch! Thank you to all staff for looking after us!

Gorgeous food, friendly staff in lovely surroundings! Lunch time treat for my partner, children and 2 new grandchildren and everyone had a wonderful meal! Sticky toffe pudding was to die for! Can’t wait to return!

Really super good food. If I was to be really picky the portions could be slightly bigger. But they know what they doing there for sure.

Had the market menu with matching wines which was delicious and very good value. Staff were attentive and friendly. Third time we've been and we will definitely be coming back.

Lovely food in a great atmosphere. No major complaints, the complimentary bread was fantastic and we really enjoyed our meal. We would return again, but perhaps sample the lunch menu for mor variety.

The Bay Horse offers a consistently high standard with staff who are attentive but not intrusive. The food is excellent and well presented. For a mid week lunch the fixed price menu is hard to beat. Have been several times and cannot see any reason why I should not continue.

Great food, great wine, great service and beautiful surroundings. It isn’t the type of place to go to be ‘fed’ but if you appreciate good food, then this is the one.

Amazing food , friendly and cosy atmosphere. We travel 45 minutes to go here. Sunday dinners are the best in the north east by far!!

Very good Sunday lunch accompanied by an excellent Malbec slightly disappointed that there were not lighter options on sweet menu, sticky toffee pud is great in winter but a nice light creme brulee or fresh summer pudding would have been more to my taste didn't think the pineapple cheesecake worked. Staff were smart polite and very efficient, ale selection very good, premises smart, would we return absolutely the star was the beef, accompanied by a very nice selection of vegetables and a giant home made yorkshire pudding

First time customers- we were a party of 4. We all thought the food was excellent- particularly the starters, mains and cheese. The wine was wonderful and the service was lovely too. Would highly recommend and worth the price.

We have visited the Bay Horse of many occasions before and never been disappointed. Today we both chose from the Fixed Price Lunch menu. The choice was limited, the portions were perfect for a hot day. This was exactly what we required. None of the 3 courses could be faulted. The service was impeccable: attentive and non intrusive. Altogether excellent value at £20 a head. Sitting outside in the shade was a bonus!

The food as usual was excellent. The weekday market menus offer good choice of great tasting food that is a cut above the usual pub standards, all at a reasonable price. Nice environment with pleasant staff what more could you want. Well worth a visit.
