Really lovely staff that didn't mind our slightly rowdy behavior. Fab back garden with lots of big tables perfect for our large group. Really tasty pizzas and the sweet potato fries are delish!
great food and atmosphere. Always helpful and friendly staff. I keep returning to this place as its always reliable. Great wine list too. Highly recomend
We had great lunch in this beautiful pub. Staff were extremely friendly and patient (We had two toddlers with us). Food was tasty but slightly pricey. I would recommend it.
Food took 1.5 hr to arrive, not same dish as menu, very bland, fish overcooked potato undercooked. Staff were kind and gave discount when we complained.
loved the food as always, big potions, not very busy. we have the chicken, lamb and sticky toffee pudding. I would visit them again and recommend to friends
Second visit here. Lovely venue, the dining area is beautiful and spacious. Menu not bad at all; the sea bass was absolutely divine. Tastecard makes it very reasonable.
Good quiz, with an excellent quizmaster. We normally go to the same quiz at the Regent but this is just as good. Expensive beer though.
Starter and dessert were just above average but the mains could have been much better. Steak was very fatty so for sirloin this was disappointing. Nice house red and dessert did make up for it a bit. Service was prompt but fairly impersonal.
Food was nice, but cold and had to wait over an hour between receiving our appetisers and main course. Staff were polite and apologised, but slow/cold food service certainly put a dampener on our evening.
Steak was ok but we used taste card, I'm not sure that it would have been worth it at the full price! Great atmosphere though.
The food was delicious & the outside space was fantastic. It was only a shame that I can't say the same about the staff. The bar staff and most of the waitresses were lovely but one waitress told us we were in the wrong reserved table (I have booked through quandoo and the table had my name on it) and we would have to move (after being there for half an hour and we had ordered food & drinks) when I said I had made the reservation she said she would speak to her manager. About 10 minutes later, the lady who I assume was the manager came over to tell us to move and that there were 2 people with the same name and the correct one had arrived so we had to move to an inside table. I said I had booked an outside table and she said "did you ring up to confirm this" which I hadn't as I didn't know I needed to. She was extremely rude about this, not what you would expect from a manager, at this point our food arrived and we were unsure if we could eat it there or not, the waiters stood holding our food unsure what to do. We were then told by the manager to "just eat it there" no apology about the mix up, no acknowledgement that they maybe should have put the surname on the reserved tables if 2peoole have the same name. It was a shame as it very much put a dampner on our evening, you don't expect to be spoken to like that by any member of staff, least of all a manager. As I say the food was nice when we were allowed to eat but I don't think we shall be returning.
Lovely atmosphere , been in the back garden and inside. Down side, back garden got closed at 20.45 and we had to move. Shame as it was such a lovely weather and if garden not used now then when ? In winter ?? But overall lovely, I'll go there again.
This was a much better experience then my last time and the atmosphere and food was delicious. It was not as busy which I think helped but was a great night.
The restaurant had a 30th birthday which took focus so food was not up to its usual standard and service was poor.
Awesome food and good service as always. I always think that the drinks (especially the beers) are bit pricey here but otherwise it is great.
We had a great evening at the Avalon, lovely food and good service. Disappointed the outside beer garden closed at 8.45 as it was a lovely evening for sitting outside.
The food was good. Average service. Very loud dining room was a bit irritating. I thought the wine was overpriced for what was on offer.
Food was tasteless! No where near as good as it has been previously. Ice berg with just olive oil is not a salad. H j
Great lunch! The space in The Avalon is perfect for families or big groups. It has a lovely light feeling in the room and the food is great.
Great pub lovely when you get a table outside can't wait to go again on a lovely evening - lovely inside too. Had a burger was very tasty.
first time here the food was amazing and the service was just as good when our waiter had the chance he seemed to be running the restaurant by himself which was a shame and it would have been a 6 otherwise!!
Staff were brilliant and very flexible when we wanted to move outside. We were well attended to and the food came quickly. Wine was delicious.
Won the quiz - Alex is a great quiz host. Beer was a little pricey - good selection though. I had Yakima Red, Very nice
Went to the Avalon for dinner on a Friday, we sat in the restaurant which had a great atmosphere. We were served by a mixture of 3 or 4 different people but on the whole staff were friendly and helpful, especially when we had to query our order. Overall a great experience, delicious steak - will definitely be back even if just for a drink
Very good pub! Although the garden is really small compared to what we see in the website pictures. Food and service were very good!! I will return. :)
Food was lovely. Staff were polite and friendly though their presence fluctuated throughout the evening. Warning if going on a Saturday night-I left with a hoarse voice as the music from the bar kept getting cranked up through the the night and even for a table for 2 you had to resort to shouting to be heard.
Delicious food and good service. The interior is also really nice. We loved the big pendant lights in the dinning room. Worth the visit for sure.
Service was poor - it took ages to get our food, despite the fact we were only getting a pizza, and then getting the Bill as well. The waiters seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves
Service was the worst I have ever encountered. Brought out our mains before our starters, mains were missing items stated on the menu. Awful experience
Lovely food as always! The staff are excellent and the food comes quickly! Very good service and I really like that the staff just come and check with you that everything is okay. And that they refill water without need for asking! It´s not long until next time I´ll have a dinner at The Avalon!
Really nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. The food was delicious - we had the hanger steak and sea bass which I'd really recommend. Will definitely go back.
Booked a table for the Rugby match (England v Australia), initially there wasnt a table available through to the evening however Daniel and his team kept my details and called me that day to say they had received a cancellation, so THANK YOU! You made our day (even though we lost) - Great venue, great staff and a great day/evening overall!
Love this place! And I'm about to book again for tonight :)
Booked a table and was left waiting for 45 minutes. Asked manager twice and each time was told it would just be a moment. But food was good.
Booked a table in the dining room on a Sat night for my family. So loud could barely hear eachother, not suitable for dining, my 60 year old mother didnt appreciate Major Lazor blasting into her ear while she ate. Food nice, but cold.
I've not been to The Avalon for a while, and pleased little has changed. Great food, and friendly helpful staff help made it a great evening.
20 minutes to order two beers at the bar, despite it not being busy. Service painfully slow and sloppy. Big shame as food is actually great as is venue. Need to change front of house staff and management urgently.
Great, great food, delicious in fact, but very loud and buzzing on a Saturday night. I would visit again, but perhaps not with my folks.
Very disappointing experience. I booked last night (7/9/2015) a table for two in the dining area. We were seated very quickly and given menus but 15-20 minutes later no one had stopped to ask if we would like to order drinks, let alone food. We were however asked if we wanted to participate in the pub quiz that was being held in the dining area. my understanding is that the lace is under new management. However I think the team need to review their service priorities. Granted the place was busy but as always there were plenty of staff in sight who could have taken a drinks order. As a result we left and went to the Balham Arms - great food, lovely Malbec and very prompt service.
great pork sunday lunch , great service from the staff, I would deff go back again for sunday lunch with friends and family . must visit
Good food and good atmosphere. Unfortunately the service wasn't excellent... We waited a long time to order and have our food. We even waited for 45 minutes for the dessert... They apologised a lot and took off the dessert from the bill but I would have preferred to eat more quickly.
Nice staff and atmosphere was okay Food was average, not amazing for example slow cooked beef was very fatty, choc brownie dry. Think they're better doing pub grub than restaurant food
Amazing service and lovely food! You should give this resturant a go!
Very kind attention to us; we always felt welcome by the front of house and well served at all times. The steaks were good too!
Generally a good experience. Quite noisy and table service was unpredictable - we were checked a dozen times to see what we wanted to drink and then left alone a little too long when the third guest arrived: can't win them all. I'd still go back again thought
Good service and nice food although the fish goujon wrap was pretty small. It was described as a 'fish cigar' by my friend who had a delicious looking and huge New York sandwich! There could have been more substance to it considering the price
It was easy to book a table online. There was a small but Good selection of food which was nicely presented and yummy. Good atmosphere. The service was friendly.
Very nice place! The food is good and the waiters are very kind. We have choosen this restaurant as it is a family pub and we can confirmed that the children are very well-welcomed. The booking via quandoo worked very well, our table was booked appropriately according to our requests (pub space in sofa!).
The Avalon is a great pub, fab food with friendly and helpful staff. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and we will definitely be back soon.
We visited for my fiance's birthday with 4 other friends and we all enjoyed it! Great food, fun quiz and nice staff. I especially recommend pizzas, they are exquisite.
