My boyfriend and I went for dinner and unfortunately it took an hour and 30 mins for our main course to arrive. I had to ask the waitor numerous times where it was and the first time he thought we’d already had it so I wondered whether it was never put through the system. Due to our table being booked at 8.30pm, it meant we didn’t eat our main course until 10pm by which time I had lost my appetite. We were given 50% off the food bill which was very kind and a shot of prosecco mixed with some sort of spirit, but overall it was a disappointing evening and I am reluctant to go back.
Great roast, nice open room. Hard to hear friends on such a large table.
Really good food and atmosphere. Staff seemed a little too busy but were more than helpful when we could grab their attention
Lovely Sunday roast but the roast potatoes had a funny taste, everything else was really nice
Had a really lovely time at the Avalon. Had a drink in the bar before going in to the dining room for dinner. When we arrived at 6pm it was fairly quiet but by 7pm the whole place was bustling. Our waiter was amazing. So lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Thanks!
Lovely! Great roast dinner & prompt service, would recommend to all!
Consistently great every time we’ve been. Lovely atmosphere, great food and good customer service
Best pie I’ve ever eaten! Couldn’t fault it. Great service too.
A great pub! Great food, great wine and friendly staff
We enjoyed our visit overall. Just felt not a huge choice on menu and we had the Wagu Beef with sweet potato fries and winter slaw. Each element was fine I just felt that gravy does not really go with coleslaw, would have been better to serve vegetables with this dish perhaps.
Always great food and service in one of South London’s best pubs
The food and service were excellent but it was disappointing that the garden wasn’t open given what a glorious and warm day it was. This was not obvious from the website. The football also completely dominated and was on so loudly in every part of the pub (even outside in the courtyard) so we ended up leaving as soon as we’d finished eating and went to a different pub where we could actually talk!
It is a nice pub, however, the food we chose/had was not great: kids pasta with parmesan was definitely not parmesan (eg grated processed cheese/rubbery), rump steak was impossible to cut and overdone (well done not med rare), kids burger was too chargrilled/charred (kids could not eat them). Kids fish goujons were excellent, and the chips were fab (but definitely are not fries, as described - fat chunky chips, which kids were not keen on, but I loved).
Really great we usually bring our little pup along and the staff always make sure she is looked after. Our favourite Sunday roast in London.
The food is amazing at the Avalon but sadly the tip is a service charge tip and I dont feel like the service warranted that. We had to wait about 30 minutes to order our food and I had to ask someone rather than them approach us. There was no pork on the menu which we didn't know about before hand and no one checked in to see if everything was ok. The staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other and 'checking tables' then actually waiting on customers. Disappointing.
The food was very good and the service efficient. The only issue is the noise level. When there are lots of groups, it is very hard to talk and listen to the people at your table.
This was my first visit to this large, cosy pub in Clapham South. I was really impressed with the quality of the food and the nutella stuffed gnocchi I had for dessert were to die for. Service was a bit hit and miss, but it was a busy night so easily forgiven. I will definitely be back very soon!
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner too which was served in their beautiful dining room! Highly recommended as a drinking pub or a dinner evening out with friends.
My friend and I had a lovely evening, the service was impeccable, and the food was a delight! The cherry on the cake was that although I had difficulty downloading my 50% off voucher, the staff kindly took it off of our bill anyway! We will definitely be going back to the Avalon real soon!
They had a pub quiz on in the restaurant area, so we were a bit sceptical that it would be loud but we needn’t have worried. We couldn’t hear a thing and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Great garden in the summer and great pizza, even cheaper if you takeaway. The inside is pretty spacious too. Would recommend a visit, good London pub.
Atmosphere great. Service friendly and efficient. My hake was a bit flavour-free but all the other dishes were excellent and we all enjoyed our linch
Avalon is my favourite - I’m there weekly! but this time there were a few niggles. chicken skewers recipe has changed and they now seem to be deep fried. On getting the bill we sat for a good half hour before eventually getting up to pay.
I’ve always had a great time at the Avalon but this time that was not the case. The service was awful and one of our main courses was cold. It’s a shame as it’s a great pub and the food menu is fab.
Beautiful set up, great staff, loved the food, service was fantastic and efficient, highly recommend it, can’t wait to go back, also the food good value for money
As always, we had a very nice family meal at the Avalon. The food for the kids is great so as the space for them to move around. The grown up had a great time with great food and nice staff. Level of service was great despite the presence of two big tables (20 each) at the same time.
Loved it as always! One of our favourite places, local to us, great food and atmosphere. Pizzas were amazing and turns into a very busy bar for drinks late on Saturdays which is great.
We really enjoyed our lunch. The food was interesting, varied and very well presented. Prices for this part of London are extremely reasonable and portions generous. The staff are exceptionally nice and highly efficient. On yesterday’s evidence, we couldn’t fault it.
Delicious. Service was very good even though it was very busy in the bar. Good selection of food choice as well as drinks. Thank you!
very friendly staff and amazing food. Great ambience in the pub so we had a very fun night! Would recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful meal for a reasonable price.
We booked a table for 6 for our work Xmas dinner but didn’t realise we had to pre order our meals in advance. The staff were extremely kind and accomodating and agreed without fuss that we could still order from the Xmas menu. Food was delicious, well and truly stuffed.. so much so we couldn’t manage the mince pies! Thank you.
We had a great time at the Avelon. The food was good and there was a fantastic atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and we would defginately go back
To me the Avalon’s Sunday lunch is the best in south London. Great starters, lovely roast and a great desert selection. It’s on the more expensive scale, but we’ll worth it
Nice atmosphere, good food and helpful staff - couldn’t want for anything else! We came on a Sunday afternoon/evening with two little ones and could not have been treated more considerately - big table with lots of space, crayons for the kids, great menu for adults and children, and the food for the smaller ones was brought quickly - ideal.
Had to sit outside after staff assumed we could eat a Sunday lunch at a sofa with a low table. Confused our food order. Staff were not very accommodating. Tried to call 10+ times to alter booking and no one answered the phone.
Outstanding as per! not sure what else there is to say but have to use a minimum 25 words for this review. Why say more words than necessary when one will do. “Annoying”
The restaurant was very well decorated and we had very good service. Top marks for the roast beef and lamb shank. Sadly the roast potatoes were not crispy and the nut roast had hardly any nuts in. Saving grace was the cauliflower cheese!
The most beautiful lamb shank and red wine. Highly recommend a Sunday lunch here. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and even better food! Will be back for sure
Great Sunday roast. Decent portions and an efficient but relaxed service. The dining room at the back of the pub is a nice setting. Will be back
The pub decor was beautiful. Atomosphere was very busy and lively. The staff were very attentive and friendly and nothing was too much to ask. The food was absolutely delicious too. Will definitely be going again!
Excellent food, I recommend the Avalon for a Sunday roast to everyone I know. Really nice staff however could have done with one or two more waiters on the floor I think.
Had a Sunday lunch, food was decent, very large portions but food not piping hot. The prices are Reasonable, it gets very busy after 2pm.
Lovely decor, shown quickly to our table and has fast and food service from our waitress I love the food every time I come here.
Good food as usual (steak, pizza, calamari and duck croquettes) and nice ambience - great value with Taste card deal. We will definitely be back!
Really disappointing afternoon here - we waited 30 minutes to have our order taken and then 45 minutes after that we received or starters.....some calamari and some raw chicken skewers! We of course sent it back decided not to stay to eat our mains. The bill was waived but I would still be reluctant to return.
Had great lunch Just real shame gardeh wasn’t open as wanted space for the kids. Great service and so good with children. Food good but inside needs a makeover.
Staff is friendly, food is decent. They were out of the wagyu brisket which we really wanted to try. I got a burger which was above average. Not really a place to catch up with friends for a quiet dinner. We were there at 5 on a Saturday and it was pretty loud and hard to hear our dining companions, lots of stag do's and 20-something birthday parties.
Staff were too busy that they did not attend to us in the restaurant area. We had to go to the bar in order to order drinks. The food was nice but it took ages to come. We even tried to stay for a drink after and were ignored at the bar by all staff so we decided to take our money else where. Not impressed!
It was our first time at the Avalon. Lovely staff served us a lovely Sunday roast, the Yorkshire’s were massive! Quick service too. We will be back again soon.
Huge roast with delicious gravy and massive Yorkshire puddings. The starters were ok but not great. Service was good, a bit slow but it was a busy Sunday.
