The first staff member that met me looked me up and down rudely. The second staff member dismissed me with hand gestures and the way he cut me off when I was talking and informing him of the slight delay of my fellow diner. There was bits of left over lemon in the water from the last time the water jug was used. When the 3rd staff member approached, I and my fellow diner informed him of the floaters in the water, he then tried to infer once again extremely dismissively, that I had somehow floatered the water with the lemon that came with my starter. My guest and I left as I'm not there to do the Shish Mahal any favours and to continue with my meal would condone the appalling service and people skills of the staff involved. We took our business to the Wee curry Shop and had a lovely meal.
A warm welcome as the door is being opened as you arrive, good service and really great food. I'd definitely recommend this Indian restaurant and is now my favourite.
The meal was lovely .. The service was fast and very friendly .. Appetisers were on the table more or less as soon as we arrived .. For u to eat while making your meal choice
The Shish Mahal is our favourite curry restaurant. The waiters are so helpful and part of the experience, ensuring you all have a fabulous meal. Always very light popadums with spicy onions. The pakoras are great. My favourite main dishes are Lamb Khas Desi and Chicken Gingerial, both originally staff recommendations. Lovely tiles on the wall, beautiful linen tablecloths and napkins and a very relaxed atmosphere. Perfect place to take friends.
This reservation system does not work. I got to the restaurant and they hadn't received my booking, even although I got a confirmation email stating that they had accepted my reservation.
Being from the States, we didn't know what to expect. Food was great--very spicy for the hubby and nice and mild for me. Would definitely refer friends.
All worked perfect. We enjoyed the suberb food and the hospitslity. Thanks for the booking service! We will come back as soon we need your assistance. Edith
Very busy therefore noisy for someone wearing a hearing aid - not your fault! Service good, food good, price as expected. Have come to the Shish since it days in Gibson Street.
Food was excellent however they had no record of my booking. They were however able to accommodate us within a few minutes which was a relief.
Great place, as good as I remembered. Had a lovely mild lamb dish with coconut. Do leave room for their naans. We had a garlic and peshwari naan. They are huge and won't leave you starving. They also have a corkage fee of £6 for BYOB which I wasn't aware of so you may want to bring your own drinks if you don't want to order from their drinks list.
We've been going to the Shish Mahal on and off for 40 years and have witnessed a few changes . The food is usually of a high standard. However on this occasion , I noticed that when my usual order of mixed Indian vegetable curry that there were not as many mixed Indian vegetables as usual . The other change was in the consistency of the Gulab Jamin which is normally spongy and delicious . Whilst they still had the same delicious taste texture it was rather slimy. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy my meal I'm just saying that it was a different eating experience but I have experience there before
The food at the Shish was delicious and the service was excellent. However the quando on-line booking system did not work and I had to make my booking by telephone with a table some 45 mins after our preferred time. Fortunately this did not detract from the overall experience. I recommend booking directly with the restuarant.
The Service is excellent and the food is authentic and generally superb. For such quality, the Prices are very reasonable. Will visit again when in Scotland.
Excellent food . Have the lamb chops for starters . Delicious. Good friendly atmosphere. Always busy so I recommend booking . Tables tightly packed in.
Disappointing I had such high hopes for chicken tikka massala as they claim to be the inventors in 1972, perhaps it was special in its day but so many other indians far better tasting, it tasted sharp like a vinegar after taste not great at all.
Great food but felt rushed by the staff to leave and rushed through courses even though the restaurant was only half full. The lamb nashilee comes highly recommended.
Lamb was better than chicken tikka masala. Sorry but I'm from New York and a Punjabi. Tikka was good but you guys gotta do a little More.
Excellent food, service and ambience in this very well established restaurant in Glasgow. If you are not familiar with the choice of curries on offer, the friendly staff will advise on a curry to suit the individual palate. Book in advance as extremely popular especially on a Sunday evening.
Amazing food and service, we had an amazing time. Our waiter Mr Nasir was a true gent and made the whole experience that much better. Highly recommend :)
Generous portions, good service, tasty curries but pakoras a bit undercooked. Good value for money especially as I wasn't paying. I would definitely go back for another meal there.
Do not get the popadoms they cost £1 EACH and with the dips it came to over £17 for twelve popadoms. The drinks are also expensive 3 pints, 1 small glass of wine, a coke and irn bru came to over £21. We will not be back!
Had a great meal at Shish Mahal, friendly staff made our visit all the more enjoyable. My partner and I will be back soon for more fantastic Indian cuisine
Lovely food, service slow, waited 25-30 minutes after finishing starter before getting main course and waited 25 minutes till we saw a waiter to get the bill, despite there being a lot of waiters all chatting together at the other side of the restaurant
Great food every time we go. We usually order a lamb dish and it's always very tender, the quality of meat is really good. Garlic naan bread is amazing. Good value for money.
I first went to 'The Shish' in 1966 shortly after it opened, and have visited it every time I have returned to Glasgow. The quality of the menu, cooking and welcome have remained of a constant high standard throughout all that time. This year's nostalgia visit was no exception.
