This was an extremely satisfying experience. The staff were very friendly, the surroundings were excellent and the food was exquisite. Having not experienced Polish food before, we will definitely be going back.
Another excellent meal at Ognisko. I love this restaurant, very elegant relaxed ambience with friendly attentive staff. The food is hearty, very well presented and superb quality. And as for the cocktails..... imaginative list with top ingredients.
5 of us. Ordered a mix of set menu and a la carte. Everything arrived together and was delicious indeed. Honey ham shank was amazing, so was the creme brûlée. We had 2 bottles of one of their cheapest wines, and found it to be most acceptable. Decor is lush, service friendly and unobtrusive, good value. Nice bar, as well
Great food, very nice ambience, good choice of Polish beers, food service was a bit slow but didn't spoil our visit.
We stopped at Ognisko for a quick dinner before an event at the Albert Hall. We barely had an hour but still managed to have 3 courses. The waitress kept an eye on us and made sure we would not be late. The food was delicious, portions generous and the setting was beautiful. It is a shame we were in a rush. I will definitely go back to Ognisko and this time try the à la carte menu.
This resturant is a real delight. I met a colleague from Amsterdam there. The food was a treat, the service was excellent and the desserts were very nice The wine list is not superb, but still quite good.
Interesting food. Good surroundings and atmosphere. Attentive service. Excellent value with the Taste Card.
A very elegant and professional restaurant. Food is decent, service exceptional, bar lovely (try the horseradish vodka) and the cost very reasonable. Enough vegetarian options.
the evening was a great success ,the service was friendly and effective while the food was a delight except for the slightly tough venison which was not cooked long enough.
The food, staff and atmosphere were all excellent. Staff friendly and attentive. If you want to try something different then Polish food makes an interesting change. A very good location if you wish to dine before attending an event at the Albert Hall. Would dine there again.
Excellent Polish restaurant in very elegant location. Food was amazing. Varity of bread to start with, delicious starters and excellent mains. We had the goose leg and pork shank, really big portions and excellent quality. Wanted to try the dessert but were too full. Service was a bit slow and could be more friendly especially as the place was half empty on a Friday night. But otherwise great experience and will go again.
Great Service, good food and a really lovely ambiance. Perfect
Great service, wonderful atmosphere, great food. A fantastic place with a very good food and drink menu
great polish food in a lovely setting - worth seeking out
Reserved a spot here before attending a show at the Royal Albert Hall and they smartly have idea of a 2 or 3 course theatre meal. I went with 3. The appetizer was marinated herring with some vegetables and though it is not something I will necessarily remember, it arrived quickly and welcomed me into the meal. In fact, quickly and efficiently were the operative words for my service, never, even though dining alone, did it drag out. Speaking of this, I started with an apple and ginger lemonade, which was extremely refreshing, but like many house made lemonades I likely left it sitting too long and it tasted mostly like water by the end. As a main I ordered a porkchop that came with sauerkraut and apple something, it was one of the best pork chops in ever ate and the sauerkraut held none of the sourness I somewhat fear from it. The berries in the accompanying sauce I found too contrasting, but I did not need to eat them, the porkchop did not need them for me. Ending it off I had a ptys, which offered a great combo of pastry and cream without being too sweet. A very enjoyable meal.
Not the most lovingly service but very efficient and the food is just absolutely wonderful. Very nice, stylish location with a lot of character.
Lovely venue, great service, very attentive to our needs and the food was delicious! Only problem was the lift access to toilets downstairs wasn't working so 90 year old aunt had to manage the not so easy stairs.
Wonderful location near the NHM so you're able to combine with the Friday late night exhibition (Wildlife photographer at the moment). Ognisko has a glamorous olden days' feel, but is actually a very warm and friendly place. The bar is great and serves Polish vodka cocktails and the food is traditional Polish, which if you've not tried is fabulous....really tasty with some unusual flavours. We got lucky and picked the recent warm Halloween night so were able to sit outside for a friend's birthday. Really worth a visit any time of year though!
A lovely restaurant with friendly staff and an intriguing and delicious menu. Really enjoyed our meal and the location was ideal being so close to the Royal Albert Hall and South Kensington Tube. Hoping to be able to visit again the next time we're in London.
Excellent good and great location. Will visit again soon .
my wife and i went here for our wedding anniversary it was great if you like an authentic polish dining experience
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Can't wait to go back with friends and family Excellent food....fantastic service...beautiful surroundings.... A must try xx
My boyfriend and I went out to dinner at Ognisko Restaurant before heading over to a concert at the nearby Royal Albert Hall. I arrived early and had a cocktail in the bar area, delicious Rhubarb Punch, while taking in the beautiful surroundings. The interior is grand and very beautifully maintained. All of the staff on the day were Polish and very friendly and approachable. The food was fantastic and I think really good value for money. We've had some starters to share, including pickled herring, pork crackling and a selection of meats. For main course I had a roast goose leg while my boyfriend had a honey and pomegranate glazed pork shank. Both well lush! (I tasted both!) The skin on the goose leg for perfectly golden and crispy and the meat was pretty much falling off the bone! The pork shank was pretty much melting in the mouth! The wine was also lovely although I wouldn't mind seeing some Polish wines on the menu. The only downside I could find is that the interior is extremely dark, it's hard to properly see what you're eating! Also, the toilets could do with being better signposted as it's quite easy to get lost. Overall the experience was really positive. Even though it was Monday night the place was buzzing and had a really nice atmosphere. While not the cheapest, we are already looking for an excuse to come back!
Very nice, convivial lunch. Thanks you. ognisko. I shall be returning.
Very pleasant atmosphere, not rushed or hurried. Ideally placed for the university graduation ceremony
Nice friendly staff in a nice atmosphere ... food was top notch and well presented. Nice pre-concert experience - perfect for couples. Would highly recommend.
We had an exceptional time, the staff were warm and efficient and the food was absolutely delicious. There was an incredible atmosphere in the restaurant. We will definitely be returning.
Poor food which was rather cold with rather bored service with no glimmer of a smile or making you feel welcome. I think the staff had had enough for the day. Nobody seemed to take any pride in their work. I think they are out of their depth considering the number of good restaurants locally
An excellent gem of a restaurant in the heart of London. Pretty decor, efficient staff and exquisite food. Highly recommended.
Service was great, food delicious and reservation easy. I will come back.
The venue and the food were simply outstanding. Great service at great price. Will be back again very soon as both my partner and I truly enjoyed our evening there.
excellent food and service - will definitely book again soon
Ognisko, South Kensigton's Polish restaurant, is increasingly attracting more non-Polish clientèle, but the food remains as authentic (and delicious!) as ever, although it was a shame not to see a few more traditional delicacies (like bigos for example) on the menu. The placki more than made up for this though! The ambience was beautiful and the staff very friendly and efficiency. A little on the pricey side but nevertheless a great
Excellent food and very professional service. We visited for Sunday lunch but resisted the traditional roast and e njoyed potato pancakes with salmon followed by delicious duck with red cabbage. Too well fed to manage dessert but cheese cake looked amazing.
I hadn't been to the Ognisko for years, and was delighted with the evening. The food was excellent, I had the beetroot soup, followed by the roast leg of goose and the apple fitters with ice cream, while some excellent Bordeaux was on offer as a bin end. My friends tried various dishes, and we were all impressed. The staff are a friendly bunch, and ;made us welcome, all in all a very good evening out. Recommended.
Having now visited the restaurant four times since its refurbishment last year, I am delighted by the improvement in the WCs. As before, the staff are pleasant and helpful and the menu interesting. The vodka selection is as impressive as ever. For some strange reason, the food still seems to arrive at the table less than hot - though never inedibly cold. The dining room has lost its character in being bereft of the paintings/portraits so that it now could be anywhere. Adrian Clark
Attentive reception. First time there and made to feel welcome and comfortable. Loved the space; one doesn't feel crowded and you can hear yourself speak and the other person too without shouting; bliss! Food to die for, though pudding needed attention, but I spoke to someone about it and they tell me by the time I come again it will be sorted. A lovely place. Staff friendly and attentive without being around too much. As a fish eating vegetarian, I found the menu great; good choices. Straight vegetarians would also find this fine - and the dishes are different to the usual fare labelled v. Dishes a good size. Good selection of wines. Will be going again soon.
Perfect service. Tasty food. Enjoyable environment. On a nice day, the outside terrace makes you feel like being in a village and not at the centre of London. The special menu is a very good value. The beetroot soup is a unique taste. The pancakes with chicken liver were perfect. The herring and the salmon for starters were excellent. The apple fritters, the cheesecake and the creme brulee are highly recommended.
Good variety of tasty polish food but our waitress was not the most polite.
Nice setting and helful waiters and waitresses. Uneven food, pork crackling not great but roast duck very tender. Pricing just right for average food quality. Please make food as good as the setting!
Friendly, attentive service from the moment I arrived. A well stocked bar with an excellent range of spirits and bottled beers. Another time I might ask what they have on draft but when I said beer the barmaid pointed to the chiller cabinet and I'm glad because I'd never tried Johannes, lovely hoppy beer. We went for lard, mixed grilled meat and whiting starters - I could take or leave the whiting but the mixed grill (which you could get as a main was excellent) perhaps they could go a bit easier on the pork crackling - in my view you only need a little as garnish but that could just be me. For the main I had goose leg with braised red cabbage and fig - awesome. reading some other reviews that food came out cold from the kitchen was unfounded - mine was hot and delicious. My friend had breaded pork loin with sauteed potatoes (basically a schnitzel) and he loved it. We were too full to eat anything else and just carried on working our way through the beer list. I normally drink wine with a meal and we were phillsitines on this occasion but who cares eh? I'm a British-born Serb and for me this restaurant just pushed all the right buttons in terms of representing the best of Slavic cuisine, hospitality, authenticity and ambience - a rare thing in London. I'll definitely be going back. The prices are spot on. I read some reviews saying the prices were 'lofty'. If you think £4, £6-£8 for appetisers and starters and £14-20 for mains is lofty then you need counselling. Ognisko is great just don't tell everyone otherwise I won't be able to get a table!
Delicious food, good service, lovely surroundings - what more could you want?
This restaurant has recently been refurbished quite pleasantly and has a nice continental ambience although the dimness of the lighting makes it quite hard to read either the menu or the bill. The bill indeed contained two unwelcome surprises - the addition of a 12.5% service charge which we hadn't spotted on the menu and a charge for wine which we had not ordered. The mistake was rectified when we pointed it out, however, and the food was good and the staff friendly.
A warm open welcome was indicative of what was to come. Service and attentiveness equal to the best restaurants coupled with an easy going informal manner. Food and drinks totally hit the mark and at 40 a head a real steal.
It was both a delicious meal in a very pleasant environment & good service overall a very enjoyable experience & one to be explored further with a more leisurely one not having to race to either a Prom or Late Night Prom merely a dining experience. Bravo!
The menu is so unusual , it really offers a new experience even to the most educated palate. The service is always excellent but beware of the Cold War cocktail - it is truly delicious, but dangerous!
Third or fourth visit. Very welcoming, good food, good wine, and distinctive culture. Also extremely close to Albert Hall, so excellent for pre/post concerts.
We took friends there for lunch who loved it, as did we (again). Service and attention was generally excellent and food delicious. It's going to become a regular!
Just so many good dishes to eat at this restaurant. And the fact that you can have so many of them as starter or main portions adds to the choice. Scrumptious! And the vodka is to die for - tried 2 types and loads more to go. Yippee!.
To be honest I was expecting it to be... well more Polish than it was!
