Lovely venue, decent food although pork was disappointing. Service fine but they were busy and didn't cope well - only one card machine going round for payment so others in my group had to leave to make sure they got to theatre and leave me to wait, pay and run!

No. 1 was a friendly and delightful place. I enjoyed the food and the staff were accommodating with regard to substitutions. A trifle noisy for old ears when full.

Delicious food, fairly priced. Service was friendly and polite, a little chaotic but it was pre-theatre time on a Saturday. Very convenient for the Chichester theatre.

Celebrated my birthday with cocktails and dinner with the girls. The service was first class, and the food very good. It was a fantastic evening, and I would definitely recommend it. The birthday dessert they presented me with was very touching.

Excellent food; good attentive, friendly service. Reasonable choice on the menu. Prices OK, but not cheap. Slightly on the noisy side - but that was because there was a wedding party in. The location was convenient.

Made to feel very welcome, and lovely food. Only downside, didn't have a starter as it wasn't our to our taste. But overall very nice evening out.

Disappointing. Insufficient food at 6:15pm set the tone for the evening. FOH staff apologetic but we've had better at No1. Will try once more as we know it is usually good.

Very nice food. The staff were a bit stretched as it was Goodwood racing and very busy. Cocktails were half price and were very nice.

Fantastic food & great atmosphere. Good offers on cocktails & Prosecco. Located very close to Chichester Festival Theatre so a good place for pre-theatre dining.

This restaurant has an excellent menu. We both really enjoyed the daily specials of Mushroom Soup and Crab/Lobster Salad. Presentation was excellent. Happy hour provides a great way to enjoy a cocktail for £5.

We visited No.1 Northgate after a matinee at Chichester Festival Theatre. The restaurant looks beautiful and the staff and their service impeccable. The menu's were varied and all the food terrific except perhaps a chocolate tart which one of our party had. The rest of us were too full after Starters and Main courses. The other big plus was that, as we arrived before 7pm, cocktails were half price - a great start to a great meal.

Perfect location for pre theatre dinner, in elegant but relaxed surroundings. Service was attentive and the set menu offered a selection of interesting options which did not disappoint. With the option of half price cocktails between 4 &7 adding to our evenings enjoyment. This was our first visit to No. 1, but not our last and we are already looking forward to a return visit.

Pre theatre supper, excellent meal, friendly and competent staff. Had the theatre supper menu, which was very good. No problem that had booked for three but one was very late.

Light bite menu not available when there is a play on at the Festival Theatre which we were not aware of which was disappointing. We did each enjoy our chosen course from the specials menu.

On our anniversary we dined pre theatre at No 1. The service was excellent but the food was not as good as expected or as good as the previous Italian restaurant Marcos that used to occupy the premises. I doubt we will eat there again as there are so many other restaurants offering pre theatre menus in Chichester.

Had the first two courses of the Pre-Theatre Menu. Both of us really thought the dishes were well designed, interesting, tasty and well- cooked and presented. Very friendly and quick service. Well done!

Unfortunately joined by Glorious Goodwood revellers when looking for a quiet pre-theatre meal. Food was good but a little restricted by choices for me as I can not eat peppers.

A varied Menu Du Jour at a reasonable price combined with friendly and courteous service makes No 1 a very wise choice for lunch. The location is perfect for pre and post theatre eating and reservations can be made easily on line.

Only reason it doesn't get 5 is because we were on the pre theatre menu and they didn't serve us very quickly. Food was excellent.

A great spot for Sunday lunch in a smart and comfortable dining room with crisp white tablecloths. An excellent roast can be had for £15. We had the beef with generous thick pink slices and a cracking Yorkshire pud. The veg was fresh and varied. Followed by the cheesecake for me and the brownie for my wife at £6 each; both excellent. The food was delivered quickly and without any fuss by the good front of house staff. This restaurant is well known for its pre-dinner menus for the Chichester Theatre but has lots more to offer as well. Worth a try and only a few yards from the Theatre car park. Just a £1 on Sunday for 3 hours!

Really poor main course - fish cakes almost inedible and couldn't find the fish. Chips soggy. Oysters to start with were ok. Used to be a pre theatre favourite venue but won't bother again.

Had a lovely time with my friend and the food was excellent. My only problem being there was a lot of very noisy people at the bar and we found it difficult to have a conversation. Not the most relaxing of atmospheres. I do not have a problem with people enjoying themselves but when you are trying to have a conversation and eat you meal it can be very distracting!

It was ver full and noisy with lots of young people at the bar when we arrived (5.30) but it cleared . The cooking is generally very good but our fish cake dish this time, with chips, was a ver dry and potatoey meal. The service was good.

Very pleasant calm atmosphere on the night we went (Sunday). Well-presented restaurant, bright, modern, romantic. Close to the theatre so ideal for a pre-theatre meal and drinks. Very nice menu, excellent quality food. Sirloin steak and monkfish both cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend and will be back!

This was our second visit. Service was quick and efficient. We had plenty of time for the meal ahead of the theatre performance. The food (calamari followed by chicken) was tasty. If there was any criticism it would be that the chicken was a bit tough (despite not being overcooked). We will visit again and hope to experience a new menu next time.

We had pre-theatre dinner on a Saturday night and found the food was good, especially the veggie risotto. It was very busy with people popping in for a drink, which made it hard to keep a conversation going because it was pretty noisy. Good service.

Delicious food and excellent service, but meal spoilt by an extremely loud gentleman and friends at the bar, the noise levels were so bad, we left for coffee elsewhere. However, to their credit, when we said why we were leaving, the staff gave us a reduction on our bill. A difficult issue to handle

Pleasant ambience, helpful staff and good wine list. Lobster linguine was excellent but steak disappointing. We wanted sparkling water with our meal but were surprised to be told there was none as they were "waiting for a delivery" - not good enough.

Pleasant pre-theatre supper No. 1 provided a pleasant convenient supper stop before attending the Chichester Festival Theatre, a short walk away. The staff are clearly well-versed in dealing with pre-theatre suppers and it's a very slick operation on the whole. Food and service are pleasant rather than amazing, but altogether a pleasant start to the evening.

We enjoyed a 'light bite' lunch prior to a theatre matinee. The food was freshly prepared and plentiful. Nice fresh bread and a huge amount of sandwich filling- we probably could have shared one between us! Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere.

A lovely pre-theatre treat. Glad we booked as was quiet busy. Enjoyed the half price cocktails and food was good. I had chicken wrapped in pancetta and my friend had the vegetable risotto. Both could have done with a bit more seasoning, though.

First class experience. Great start to a memorable evening at Chichester Festival Threatre. Staff very attentive, great service, very professional, yet human with interaction with us. The food was right on the button. The Menu offered the perfect balance to precede 3 hours in the Theatre. Situation, just a short distance from the Theatre. Highly Recommended. Well done to the staff. Thank you.

Overall good, but my lobster salad was scarcely worthy of the name, containing just half of a pathetically small lobster, scarcely bigger than the one prawn it was served with. Not good value for the price.
