Hops and Flops! We had been waiting to try Hops and Chops for sometime after having some great meals at The Smoke Pit in Northampton town centre. We decided to go today for a Sunday roast dinner. It's impossible to completely slate Hops and Chops, for starters, their selection of craft ales and gins was very good, similar to their sister venue in the town centre. In terms of taste, the food was also superb. But that's as far as this place goes, I can only imagine the owners of Hops and Chops invited residents of St. Crispin Village to help create their menu, as the portion sizes were embarrassingly minuscule! If the cuts of lamb were any thinner, they may as well have been purified. I ate the trio of meats at approx £18.00 and my friend had the roast pork belly at approx £15.00, My partner had a burger (which she said was okay). My main recommendation if you eat here is to avoid the trio of meats, for the higher price, you get a reduced amount of meat, It was glaringly obvious that in order to shave cost, they were shaving the meat! My friend who had the pork felt his portion was small and mentioned that the serving should have been on the menu as a taster, or a starter. We received half a bowl of vegetables between two, a Yorkshire pudding that would have been rejected by any regular Yorkshireman and gravy in a small ramekin as thin as dishwater. The real kicker was the carrots and parsnips, they tasted unreal, absolutely delicious, but you had less than a quarter of a standard carrot or parsnip sitting out your plate! We mentioned to the waitress at the end that the food didn't represent the price we paid, she just said she would pass the feedback to the chef, someone else came to collect payment. Approx £75 spent in total. We are now back at home cooking a second dinner, a real shame. We came from the other side of Northampton today, knowing that there were places on the way that served a fantastic roast dinner. Would not return, ever. Almost a scam.

This place has an OK menu with tasty food. The beef is good quality but overall was not blown away. Service is hit and miss, while prices are steep.

Great restaurant and food / drink with friendly service from all staff. Unfortunately a rather long wait for the food spoilt the top rating.

Serving staff very knowledgeable informative and helpful. the menu very easy to read and understand. food quality was excellent. Range of drinks good. The food quality was good but the food portion was poor eg half a carrot with the duck. The small sides were small!, Desserts at £7!! The quality was good and the plate design appealing but value for money very poor. Drinks prices on the high side. Would I go again? Probably not more likely to try Chef and Brewer or Miller and Carter based on a balance of quality and value for money.

Had a mixed roast so lamb, pork and beef. Couldn’t decide which was best as they were all exceptional. 7 year old had the kids steak meal and totally loved it. All things considered this is the best restaurant in Northampton!

Really disappointed- our table wasn’t ready when we got there. We were invited to have a drink at bar but too busy to serve us. Ordered steak (medium) arrived 45 minutes later rare and sitting in pool of blood. Waitress took orders back said she’s get her manager over we saw no one. By time we eventually got our food we were underwhelmed. We left knowing we won’t be returning. They were very but Service too slow

Food was very tasty and staff nice but we did have to wait quite a while at our table until we were attended to. It was very noisy with tables very close together where we sat. Also young children in a family group were running up and down the seats at the back of the restaurant. Bad parents but staff should have intervened, as it spoilt other diners experience.

My 2nd visit to H&C and still continue to be impressed with the quality of the meat and wide selection of craft beer and gins. Reasonably price this should be in any meat lover’s bucket list. Tell ‘em Big Dave sent ‘ya. Oh and if you have room, the cheese board is a delight too.

Food was slow, possibly because we didn’t all order Sunday roasts. Received the bill and then waited 10 mins for someone to take payment, (lots of people serving) went to the bar in the end to pay. Vegan burger looked like it had been cooked and then held for the rest of the food. Pork was over cooked and dry. Ordered Pichana steak medium rare, was ok but perhaps wait staff should have advised it was better cooked rare as majority of it was chewy (think Miller and Carter / Gauchos style of advice) as the diner would have had a better experience. Sunday roast was the pick of the bunch.

Slightly Disappointing after a first brilliant visit the second visit with friends was not quite to good the food was still good but not very hot The staff too busy to be attentive Far too noisy as lots of big party groups so 4 of us couldn't hear ourselves speak would be helpful to put smaller groups in one area on their own - would not go as just a couple
