Fothergills

Went on a Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday with 6 people. Had a great meal in a very relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff.

The waitress was friendly but not very knowlegdable when asked what bread type, nor what cake was offered on the coffee and cake deal. She couldnt tell us which coffees were on the offer. My sausage baguette didnt have any onions offered on the menu, but nobody was around to inform. Shame really, as the ambience, decor and lunchtime offer were all good.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Vegetarian option was delicious. Large portions. Vegetables cooked nicely not over done. Good value. Booked on line. Table ready on arrival. Prompt and efficient service. Lovely ambience, didn't feel rushed. Definitely go again.

Delicious food and excellent service thank you! You catered for my mother who has coeliac disease with no fuss and the prices were very reasonable.

Usually fabulous but the whole party had different meals. You could have hammered nails in with the meat pie, the potatoes were totally not seasoned and the red cabbage (the best bit) was amazing but it overtook the whole plate. The slow cook roast pork had very little taste. Really disappointed with all of it :-(

Lamb and beef weren't being served at 7 o'clock as it was all gone so travelled 15 miles to be told I would be having pork or chicken, no thanks

Horrible experience. Forgot our drinks so had to ask for them. The menu labelled two dishes vegan and I ordered one but they came back and said they werent sure if the bun was vegan and the chips werent. My dish arrived and it consisted of an extremely dry salad with the burger, which was served in sandwich bread with boiled potatoes. No sauces or seasoning. We werent asked if we enjoyed our meal so couldnt mention the problems.

Lovely food cooked to perfection, excellent staff engagement too with us. I hadn’t the Duck breast special with lentils and it was delicious. We will be back soon.

Lovely food , relaxed atmosphere. Would have been an issue if we were in a hurry as the service was slow. We weren't in a hurry so it was a nice relaxed lunch.

Friendly staff. Food very tasty and served in a timely manner. Ambience very pleasant. Overall a very good experience and one we will certainly repeat.

A good and reasonably priced lunchtime menu with friendly service albeit a little slow. Wider menu is good with choice of salads and main dishes. Well worth a visit.

table wasn't ready on time by quite a while and longer than average wait for food despite the fact it wasn't very busy. Waitresses were friendly and professional. Food was good.

The food was delicious and the service excellent. I liked the ambience inside too. Also they welcome dogs in the casual bar area as you enter.

Fothergills was recommended to me by my hairdresser and we have been twice now - first as a walk-in and this time with a reservation. Both times have been a delight. The food is wonderful (and there's enough of it), the atmosphere is cosy, the servers are attentive (and make great recommendations). We will probably make this our regular restaurant when going to the theatre.

We received excellent and attentive service and the food was lovely, with very generous portions. Lovely decor too, felt very homely and relaxed. Will be coming back.

Absolutely delicious food, a lovely table and a sweet waitress who was attentive but not too much so! Not the cheapest of meals but most of it (the lamb in particular) was outstanding! We will definitely return!

Good choice of dishes, reasonably quick service, food was fab. Nice atmosphere too. Pretty standard prices for the quality of food. Would recommend for meal with friends or as a couple.

Amazing food and atmosphere. Could not have asked for anything else, the staff were excellent and very very helpful; great location near the castle too.

We have previously had good experiences here, but must have chosen a bad day to visit. It wasn't busy, the staff were polite and helpful, but my first steak pie was cold in the middle and, after waiting for a replacement, while my husband continued to eat his burger, it arrived black and burnt on top; it was inedible. Shame on the staff for daring to send it out of the kitchen, particularly as a replacement dish. I was offered something else but found I was too upset to bother and in any case, my husband had long since finished his meal and we were on our way to the theatre, with limited time. Top marks to staff for trying to make amends by not charging for my husband's meal and for removing the service charge. We will probably give the benefit of the doubt and try again another day, as we have always enjoyed visiting this restaurant in the past and hopefully the kitchen staff will learn by their mistakes.

We initially had a table far to close to the bar that the noise prevented us talking each other. As it was raining the bar was very busy. However the staff were very helpful and moved us. Food was good
