Côte Restaurant Exeter

The food was lovely, but the service was not great. No one came to check on us through our whole visit, no offer of more drinks or checking how the food was. When we asked for the bill, we then had to go and find someone to ask them to let us pay. Unfortunate for them really, we were keen for a few more drinks and desert but by the time we saw anyone after our main meal, we just wanted to bill so we could leave

We went to Cote Exeter for a Valentine's Day meal. The food, as always, was fantastic but the service was appalling. We arrived at 8:00pm and were immediately sat at our table. We then waited 15 minutes before being asked what we would like to drink. After ordering our meal, starters came out relatively promptly, however, at 10:15pm the main course had still not arrived. Thinking there must have been a problem or that we had been forgotten I queried the delay with one of the more senior waiting staff. I was assured that we had not been forgotten, and our meal arrived around 10 minutes later. I appreciate the restaurant was busy, and it was clear that something had gone amiss, which happens.....but the real issue here was the complete lack of attentiveness by the waiting staff. Not once did they come over and say there was a problem, or apologise for the delay and see if we needed a drink or anything. It was a real shame, and the evening was only bearable because the food, the atmosphere and the company was great. Disappointing.

No 60 percent of dishes from the Valentines menu. Tables without tablecloths. An invoiced bill of £ 15, Generally, the Valentine's dinner on average was good, I expected better quality.

Too few staff on the recently opened second floor which meant that many mistakes were made with our order, wrong meals being delivered to table and three incorrect bills. The staff who were working were doing their best but there were just too few of them.

Amazing! Service faultless and the food as per was worth every single penny. Especially enjoyed wine pairings on set valentines menu. Will be going back multiple times

Today, tables appeared close together, and room very noisy. The service was rushed at the beginning, and then slow waiting to order desserts. Over all not the best experience today.

The night before Valentines day, this restaurant was buzzing with atmosphere. No mussels on the menu that evening but who cares, all our meals were delicious.

Good value set lunch, friendly service and nice atmosfuture. Would recommend and definitely be revisiting in the near future. Plenty of menu choices incl veggie.

Disappointing after so many good meals at Cote- service slower; blood orange salad dressing too salty and fennel needed parboiling or cut much finer; venison pie's potato topping watery. However cow au vin good if a little saltier than usual. Didn't bother with desert.

The food was good, ice choice of specials and normal menu. However the service was just ok. Nobody put themselves out. We waited a long time for someone to take our order.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch from the a la carte menu. The raspberry and white chocolate creme brûlée which was a February special was delicious. Service was good.

We ate early after a visit to the cinema so got the two course special offer. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and tasty food as always.

It was an extremely busy Saturday night which meant service was relatively slow, which you’d expect. However, despite the slow(ish) service, the food was excellent and the staff were all very pleasant. Will be going back, but will probably and go a weekday night to avoid the business.

Good food , prompt service , lovely ambience , table overlooking the cathedral. Good space between tables. Recommend French onion soup and the cream brûlée. Wine choices also good Would return when in Exeter again

Once again, a very good experience. Warm, friendly and attentive staff, who appear to be happy in their work, hence their welcome and attention to detail. The food was good. The only downside was the level of noise, but it was full! Clearly, very popular.

Cote Exeter is always good. The food is consistently good. The service is always good and professional. Always a favourite. The creme caramel is just superb.

A very good lunch indeed. Nice menu with some good winter warmers on there. Helpful, cheerful staff. A perfect view onto the beautiful cathedral front.

Had a pleasant evening at Cote Exeter. We were on the third floor which I was happy about as the ground and first floor were busy and too noisy. The service was good and staff helpful and friendly. The food was nice . Husband had seabass which he enjoyed but it did not come with much. My duck was nice, felt the sauce could have been a little thicker and more tangy. I was not too happy with a 12% optional service charge being added to the bill, you obviously don't want to ask for it to be removed. I would rather decide on my own tip. All in all it was a nice evening and clearly a popular restaurant by the amount of people there.

It was,as ever, very good and the service very prompt. I had to send back one of the coffee cups which was dirty with lipstick but there was an immediate apology and a fresh cup arrived. The food was very tasty.

Excellent. Cote at Exeter continues to provide great food at reasonable prices served by smiling efficient staff. Keep up the good work! See you again soon.

Brilliant as ever. Great food and friendly service. Chocolate fondant pud to die for. Lovely view of the Cathedral. Good coffee too. Not the cheapest but worth it for something special

Excellent service, plenty of choice on daily menu. Cooked to perfection. Wine choice good. Nobody rushing you plenty of time. Water is complementary. Been there four times always good.

The service was very good, but was a little alarmed when after ordering our food it was brought to our table within less than 5 minutes, prompting the reaction, that this had not been freshly prepared. Unfortunately that evening i did experience an upset stomach. The dish i has was a Poulet Grille, and being chicken i wasn't surprised to be poorly, such a shame going to think twice about going back now.

Excellent service as always. Will be returning in the future as food to very high standard. Varied menu some special items usually on offer especially for those romantic times.

top food- great customer service and great atmosphere with lovely views

The food was lovely but I object to an 'optional' tip being added to the bill total.The real total was in small numbers underneath.Luckily I realized before I paid so was able to decide on a tip amount myself.

We returned to Cote because we were very pleased with our previous meal there. We had the early bird prix fixe and were very impressed again; good food and excellent value.

Polite and welcoming staff and tasty, well presented food. A very enjoyable experience especially with views from the window of Exeter Cathedral. Larger bottles of water for the table would be helpful.

Very nice waitress service. Food also good!! Not really expensive. But have a little bit slowly to hand in food. Overall is nice and will be back to eat again.

Excellent friendly service despite being very busy. Great breakfast as always. Cote never let you down on all fronts and thats why so many people go there.

Great food and service. The 4 of us enjoyed our evening, we had 2 courses, starter and mains as we couldn't manage a dessert on this occasion.

The Cote restaurant chain is reliable. You get a good atmosphere, and in Exeter it is an excellent setting. Menu has good range of choice and the pre 7pm menu is a good deal

Lovely food. Good service. Excellent value. We were offered a varied menu, including a vegetarian one for my wife. Perfect table looking out over Cathedral Green

Great evening - restaurant busy but buzzing with atmosphere and service was excellent. Really comprehensive menu and all 3 of us very happy with our 2 courses. No downsides. Would definitely go again.

Great atmosphere at the Exeter Cote today - Saturday. Busy, but service still up to good standard. Sat in the window overlooking Exeter Cathedral, had crab mayonnaise, then monk fish with sides of green beans and carrots and finished with a chocolate mousse and coffee, all excellent for a restaurant of this type. Washed down with a bottle of Syrah. Possibly a bit pricey at just short of £70 including service, but good value as far as I’m concerned.

lovely food. Did not have the starter I wanted, but I suppose it made me try something else. price of drinks is ridiculous £3.60 for the tiniest beer. Service was great.

Food 100% plus usual friendly staff always make this our first choice when in Exeter. They never try to squeeze us on a small table for two which many other restaurants do.

Great atmosphere. Very prompt and friendly service. Very good food and excellent value. There really isn’t much more that one can comment on, so rather unnecessary to ask for a minimum number of words!

Excellent food, excellent service, good value, quality meal in beautiful location. Faultless. The staff are brilliant, professional, friendly, good natured and patient. Will be back soon 🙂

Set in a gorgeous location overlooking the Cathedral, the atmosphere was great, the food served hot, fresh and delicious and the three course set menu offers superb value for money.

Every time we go we get great service and lovely food and lovely surroundings we have been going since the day they open so we got to know quite a few staff.

Ate from the early menu. Food was lovely with good friendly service but after eating we weren’t asked if we wanted any coffee or other drinks.

Food was fine and the setting was nice but service was very slow. We were there for over 1.5 hours just for main courses and coffee.

The usual high stanard of Cote. Highly recommended. Great food. Good service. Great wine. Pre-theatre menu is excellent value. Located opposite Exeter Cathedral ooverlooking the Green.

I have been to the restaurant on many occasions and I was made to feel very welcome. This is in a great location with excellent food.

Busy, fun, great atmosphere with amazing food and great wine choice coupled with fab waiting staff what more could you want for lunch ? Brilliant

We had to wait a while before we were served but once we were our waitress was faultless. High praise for the food too chosen from the a la carte & Weekday special menus, the latter is great value.
