I love Cote Restaurant, I was there always happy and always love coming back. Very delicious steak tartare and absolutely lush Sea bass. Nothing better that finish the dinner with dark chocolate pot

A good lunch as always at Cote especially the quality of the food, presentation and service. Some good wines reasonably priced - have tried the Muscadet several times.

We come to Cote in Exeter two or three times a year, and always enjoy the food and ambiance. Last night good, but not the best. The muscles in my starter were very small, and the noise level went beyond the usual pleasant buzz to plain noisy. All the same we enjoyed the meal and will coming again.

It's our half-way house for meeting old friends from Cornwall (we're in Dorset) so we like to chat. Good service but not rushed in any way. Loved the new, slightly more up-market and expensive lunchtime menu. All in all, a very good lunch.

Waitress working hard despite being relatively new. Not enough staff on waiting side. Other people waiting a while to order. This made service including opening drinks very slow.

Very pleasant experience. Food was good, calamari to start, then the haddock in bacon, well cooked, not dry. Restaurant was half full which was enjoyable, as it was too overbearing but quiet enough to have conversation around the table. Staff were available, but not intrusive and all were polite and helpful.

Outstanding as always. As it was a joint 70th birthday lunch that I mentioned when booking we would like to thank the Exeter staff for the birthday gifts and the sparkling wine that enlivened a lovely lunch. The food was excellent and well presented and the staff friendly and knowledgeable.

Visited at lunchtime. Good atmosphere and food. Very enjoyable. In the evenings when it is full I know the noise level can make it hard to talk.

Food and staff were up to the usual high standard. The only problem was that the noise level was high and a little annoying. Perhaps management should consult an expert or would some soft furnishings help solve the recurring problem curtaining for example. OVERALL A GOOD NIGHT OUT. Regards George

We visit Exeter about once a month and frequently use other branches of Cote when visiting friends and family. I think we must have been spoiled over the years and have come to expect a consistently high level of service, unfortunately on this visit it was somewhat lacking. I'm not sure if it was staffing levels but my husband had to ask on three occasions to be attended too. However, on a brighter note the food was as expected and excellent.

The whole experience was fantastic. I booked way in advance to get a Valentine's Day Table, but a week before someone from the restaurant called up to let me know that they would be doing a set menu. It was great to be kept informed so we didn't turn up expecting something else! The food was amazing as usual and all the staff were really attentive and professional. It was quite noisy but that was just the buzz of the atmosphere, it didn't cause any issues at all. If you want a slightly quieter evening you can always ask to be seated downstairs where it is a bit more chilled.

A lovely dining room with wonderful views of the Cathedral, and very welcoming staff. The menu was delightful, and we went for the April specials. We appreciated the very ready acceptance of my husband's dietary needs, and for the first time in our experience were handed a complete adjusted gluten-free menu. We spent a very pleasant couple of hours, and were not hurried. Altogether a most enjoyable meal which surpassed our expectations.

Lively atmosphere, and great food. The Tarte citron was fabulous, and the meat excellently cooked. Can also recommend the fish stew, lovely. This is a popular restaurant in Exeter even on a wet rainy weekend mid February we struggled to get a table with a weeks notice. Only negative is that everyone was enjoying themselves so much it was quite loud....

I came into the restaurant a week ago to book a table for eight people to celebrate my 65th birthday, and asked for a table in a quiet area. I was shown around the restaurant by your member of staff and the various potential positioning of a table for eight was discussed. On arriving last night at the appointed time I was told that a table had been reserved for three! A table for eight was eventually found. As for "quiet area" - no such luck!

I always enjoy going to Cote but today was not so good. Fathers Day was always going to be busy I guess. Had booked for 11.15 am on line and asked for table on ground floor as one of our party was not good with stairs. Arrived to be shown to top floor up 4 flights of steep stairs. Made the first flight and realised it was going to be difficult so asked for alternative. Had to sit outside on a blustery, sun/rain day as nothing inside. Some tables inside emptied but they put 2 people on a four etc so waited almost 45 minutes before going inside and first whiff of food was after 75 minutes . Offered comp coffees when outside initially which we accepted. Breakfast Formule was fine, but three of party did not have the coffee as had to go on to an appointment which the delay meant we would have missed. Bill arrived and paid minus cover charge , but the comp coffee turned out to be part of the bill. It won’t stop us going back again I expect but just not the experience I would have expected or wanted.

We had booked a time so we could have the early eve set menu only to be told on arrival that 2 of the mains, what we wanted to eat in fact, weren't available & there was no replacement for them so we had to pay more to eat a la cartre & then the dessert we wanted wasn't available. Not good enough.

18-4- 2019 my birthday we live in Exeter and the only restaurant we use in town centre. we booked for 12.30 shown to table at 12.45 went to ask if we could see menu! Or even a drink.! Given lunch menu no offer of a drink !10minutesfor asked if we wanted drink but not able to order food separate waiter! Another 10 minutes ordered food 25 minutes later soup arrived by 1.40 we had to ask if there was a delay! And by magic it suddenly arrived! We left at 2.05. It was surely not unexpected to be busy over easter? 1 more staff would have sorted it , We have used venue 40 anniversary birthdays mother’s day etc because we like it so much. We wher embarrassed because our friends from Taunton where treating us . No apologies where offered by staff . ( its only 1. 30 hours) we are so dissapointed and embarrassed I await your comments

My husband and I went for dinner on Saturday night for a belated Valentines Day meal. They were still offering the Valentines set menu so we decided to go for the three course option with wine match. My husband had the goat cheese starter and the duck for mains, which he really enjoyed, and I had the prawn starter and the haddock for mains. We shared the dessert platter. Unfortunately my fish was over cooked, over seasoned (it was so peppery it made my mouth burn) and the sauce was non-existent. I didn't finish it as it was rather unpleasant to eat. When asked how everything was with our meals, I did say that my fish was rather dry, which was met with a rather bored response of 'I'll talk to my manager'. Said manager never appeared, an apology was never offered and I was left with a rather bitter (as well as peppery!) taste in my mouth. The waitress clearing the table could see that I had only eaten half my main, but she didn't ask why. I know they were busy as it was the Saturday night after Valentines Day, but that's no excuse for poorly cooked food and harried service. If my complaint had been dealt with (apology offered, perhaps offered a new main or comped bill) then my review would have been more positive. This is our local Cote and it is usually much better than this. I guess the lesson learnt is not to go when it's busy!

Today I was disappointed by the attribute of the manager. The food was very good as usual, but the attribute of the new manager was poor. We were half way through our main course, and waiting patiently for our wine. When I enquired where is our wine, I was greeted with a death scare! This to be frank is unacceptable. Cote is our go to restaurant, and we often eat at St David's Bay in Cardiff and Convent Garden in London being opera buffs, they are ideally located for us.

A special evening slightly spoiled by my wife having to return her meal because it was burnt however, they did apologize but it shouldn't have been served initially, someone not checking before service! Additionally the item my wife requested was not available after the burnt offering. Finally they charged me for something we didn't have unfortunately i did not realise until i got home. The service was fine and the rest of the meals were OK just a shame about the rest.

Hello as a regular visitor to Cote in Exeter and Bath, I have to say that yesterdays visit to Exeter was not up to its usual standard. I visited on Fri 8th March and tried your Monkfish special which was superb. So I ordered the same thing yesterday but the monkfish was not as fresh and slightly overcooked, the bacon surrounding it was overcooked and salty. The mushroom sauce with it was very bland, but last time it was perfect. My partner had the lamb rump but both of our dishes were on the small side and he went away still hungry. for some reason at the start of our drinks, empty water jug and other glasses and our starter plates were never cleared from our table. It wasnt until we had started top eat our main meal that it was finally cleaned. Very unusually disappointing. thank you Gina

As usual at lunchtime overall atmosphere busy but very pleasant at a table for three. Initial service a little slow but efficient throughout. Food well presented and very acceptable in terms of quantity and quality, although the mains pan-fried chicken was rather dry and perhaps a little overcooked. Plenty of water available and drinks ordered OK but the rose wine could have been further chilled. Cote is a place which encourages you to take your time. Staff are courteous and to prove it one of the staff followed us outside to with a forgotten pair of sunglasses. Thank you.

The food was excellent. The service was good but there were not enough waiting staff. My husband had to re choose his starter as it wasn’t available. He chose calamari but choosing in haste, didn’t realise it came with tartar sauce which he can’t eat. He wanted to ask for plain mayo but we couldn’t get anyone’s attention. The potatoes never arrived with my main course, again there was no staff around to ask. Cheese board was fine. When we asked for the bill it took 20 mins to arrive, then after a further 10 mins waiting to pay, I had to go downstairs to pay on our way out. The they had taken my main course & the cheese off the bill (for the service issue) which was a nice gesture but then added the service charge on! Great food, good staff but not enough. Don’t think we’ll go back - shame.

Very busy so a little lacking in good service. Two choices of meal unavailable. Offered a free cocktail as compensation which was nice. Overall good but service standards brought down rating.
