Côte Restaurant Exeter

We had a superb lunch at your Exeter restaurant today. My husband had tomato Breton and I had the calamari for starters followed by roast duck in a cherry sauce, and dessert Apple tart French style and I had chocolate fondant. Wonderfully served and presented. We also had a complimentary bottle of wine for becoming a newsletter recipient. A really nice gesture. We have booked again for my birthday in August when we have complement Kit for our guests! Again a lovely gesture.

Was massively surprised then disappointed and finally appalled to have a clear red lipstick stain on my water glass which made me think that perhaps everything was going to be as unhygienic, imagine...that was front of house, what was it like behind the scenes. It totally spoiled my visit. I could not totally relax and enjoy my food. I could also sense/smell a slightly unclean and slightly fishy smell to the drinking water. Again, another indication that perhaps hygiene isn’t the main priority. Would like to hear your comments on this.

I have been to Cote Exeter many times and was impressed. However, on our recent visit for lunch in a half empty restaurant we found standards had dropped. We ordered duck (served pink as stated on the menu) but it arrived overcooked and dry. A second attempt was made but the duck was so fatty half of it was inedible. We have both had this duck dish at Cote before so we knew how it was supposed to be cooked and it was certainly not up to standard. On the plus side the waiter did get my steak frites (which was good) remade as well so we could eat together when the new order came and also adjusted the bill to reflect the poor quality duck. We were a party of 8 celebrating graduation from Exeter Uni. We all enjoyed our food and the service was excellent. Staff were very helpful both checking and accommodating changes to our booking.

Nice place, average prices, but my chicken was very over cooked and dry, would not have it again.

Superb. Food excellent and realistically priced. Great overall ambiance and attentive, knowledgeable waiter service. Will become a favourite haunt I’m sure.

location excellent although i thought rather overpriced the service was very good not long time for food.

Good overall but different waiting staff , waiting our table meant we where interrupted through our meal and repeatedly asked the same questions, Which was a little annoying.

Enjoyed our meals as always, to be honest we thought that the waiting time was more then it usual is but it was busy due to graduation week in Exeter

We had brunch on Sunday, it is such good value, full English, orange juice, latte and toast absolutely top class !

Food and service really good but would have liked a little more time to finish the starter before the mains were served

We have been fans of Cote Brasserie in Exeter from the early days when it opened. We have never been disappointed and every visit has felt special. It is not only the variety of meals on offer but also the superb team who look after us. For example we spent our wedding anniversary enjoying your wonderful lobster dish and the excellent service from our waiter Alex. Thank you

Great meal and service, however I found that my chosen wine was corked, explained the issue with a member of staff who was brilliant with the wine removed, and new wine on the table within minutes. If I had a criticism, slightly cramped and noisy.

This restaurant provides all the things you need in a restaurant, good location, good atmosphere and importantly good food and good service. We have been before and will be back

Second visit in a week. Very much enjoyed. A popular buzzy restaurant.

Delicious 😋 meal as usual 😃 We both had smoked mackerel rillette as a starter. For mains I had Salade D'été which was lovely and fresh with very tasty Breton tomatoes and lovely pesto dressing. My husband had the Breton chargrilled chicken and he really liked it. It was cooked to perfection. Nice and juicy. We will be back soon 😋🤗

The staff are always so friendly and proffessional, even though as it was graduation week , and they had been drafted in from other restaurants !

The Exeter restaurant is by far the best for service, the staff from management to waiters are all so friendly professional welcoming and so thorough and attentive. The staff in Exeter always remember me... even down to knowing I like to start the meal with a glass of fizz ! Loving your July specials ... had the lobster starter twice and the lobster main twice. Actually going to your clifton branch to have again. Yummy .... I must say all the food is delicious ... I think I eaten everything on your al la carte menu. French onion soup exceptional ... sea bass amazing, steak tartar to die for. Recently had set menus also ... pork yummy and fish cake with running yolk poached egg ... wow !! Thank you cote for keeping me well fed and good food.... along with exceptional personal professional service. Lisa x

Had a lovely birthday meal. Dan found us a table upstairs in the window which was perfect; thank you for my complimentary glass of fizz and our fillet steak and rump of lamb were both delicious. Will definitely recommend this restaurant and will certainly come again.

Wonderful food and service, with a view of the cathedral. All dishes were excellent, but the swordfish in particular was incredible.

Excellent quality of service atmosphere and food. Our only small negative is that there are few soft furnishings to absorb sound so the upper room is rather noisy.

A mostly enjoyable first evening dining at Côte, we had excellent food and pleasant attentive staff, the only downside was our position of seating upstairs seated between two extremely noisy parties, I was unable to continue any conversation with my wife without raising my voice to an unpleasant level and reminded me of a canteen, so we concluded our visit after the main meal. I had noticed it was considerably quieter downstairs making it was more conducive atmosphere for eating drinking and conversation. We will defiantly revisit but perhaps make a choice as to seating positions available,

Good as usual but we felt rushed - we did have a 5.30 table as nothing else available til after 8pm and we were slow to order - but only because there were lots of tables free...constantly asked for order - 5 times - such a shame :(

I took two friends who were visiting to Cote. They were very impressed with the service and thoroughly enjoyed their meal.

Relaxed, unhurried and fresh, tasty food. Perfect celebratory meal. GF menu a bonus for one of our party.

Thank you for the wine voucher We would have liked to choose from the weekend specials but were unable to with this voucher This seemed silly when the item we wanted to choose actually costed more than what we ended up ordering!!!!

Perhaps a small garnish on the steak frites? Goats cheese salad a great choice Love this place

Very disappointed, busy Saturday night and we waited ages for a drink order then even longer for someone to take food order. When it came to desserts.. after 15 minutes without service we gave up, paid and left. Shame as we come regularly and it’s alwAys been ok in the past

Delicious lobster starter. Succulent duck breast main course. Super service. Lovely staff. Highly recommended.

We went to have the July special lobster following an email from Cote but there was no fish at all... No duck breast on my charcuterie board - for the first time we were disappointed that we couldn't have what we really fancies. However, what we did have was very yummy

My birthday dinner here was as great as it always is. The food was fantastic and my guests all loved it. You were very accommodating as the numbers kept changing so thank you very much. My only little quibble is that being a restaurant manager myself i prefer to leave cash as a tip for my waitress or waiter, but having so many different people serve us its hard to know the tip goes to the right person.

A nice meal and a good gluten free menu. Service excellent.

Excellent service and delicious food. We had the cheaper 3 course set meal and it was very good value. Portion sizes were just right and the choice was varied. We were well looked after by the friendly staff and the place had a good buzz. It does get a bit noisy in the restaurant and it wasn’t always easy to hear. (There are lots of hard surfaces in the room - floors, tables etc). But perfect for a lively get together with friends.
