We had an early reservation for two. Even so, available tables were awful, either crammed against walls or immediately next to busy and noisy service counters.I am 6'3"+, my wife is 5'9", and we are generally uncomfortable with one arm pressed against a wall. . We ended up against a wall in the noisy bar, and made the best of it. We came specifically because of the Vigouroux Cahors being offered, but it turned out to not be a Cahors at all. The Vigouroux wine being sold is from the Comte Colosan d.o.c., which is nearby but not in Cahors. It was certainly drinkable, but exhibited none of the characteristic Earthiness of a Cahors. The food was excellent, particularly the pork belly -- almost good enough to make up for the wine fraud and the poor seating. Nevertheless, we would not return.

Asked for a window table when booking online and were given one, and at a peak time on a very busy Saturday night, which was brilliant. Ordered the vegetarian pissaladiere but was given one with anchovies; luckily we noticed before taking a bite. Genuine mistake and swiftly rectified. Sausages a little over cooked if being totally honest. Overall a lovely experience as always, so thank you.

As always a lovely dining experience at Cote. Only slight disappointment was that we tried to order 3 monkfish but there was only one available. We then tried to order the lamb special to be told this was sold out also. The food that we did have was beautiful as always and we had a lovely afternoon

We are a family of four and visited the Exeter restaurant for a 70th birthday breakfast treat. We had booked online and had requested a window table on the first floor overlooking Exeter Cathedral. We were disappointed on arrival to be told that the upstairs was not open, but we could have a window table on the ground floor, which we reluctantly accepted. We could still see the cathedral from here, but only 10 minutes into our meal an ambulance came and parked right across the window, totally obscuring our view. We just wished when our booking was accepted that we had been told that we would have to sit on the ground floor, but by this time it was too late. Also, it was very noisy downstairs with the cutlery on the serving bar and the constant hissing of the coffee machine; my husband is very hard of hearing, and all this background noise made it impossible to have a decent conversation. The other moan was that the hollandaise sauce on the eggs was far too rich and creamy, and I have been feeling queasy all day. Apart from all this, the service was impeccable and we did not have long to wait for our meals. The food was good and the price too was reasonable. All in all, we would definitely return, but would make sure that the food we ordered was not covered in sauce, and that we had a table away from the serving area.

A very tasty lunch in a vey attractive setting overlooking Exeter Cathedral on a brilliantly sunny February afternoon. The service was both friendly and polite and our food was delivered very promptly. As usual at Cote, we were not disappointed.

We had an excellent meal. Our starters and main courses, sea bass and pan fried hike was deliciously cooked and served piping hot. We had a complimentary bottle of red wine this time. The service was excellent. The waitresses were very attentive and helpful. We had a wonderful evening. Thank you

After booking to take my mother for mother’s day lunch, we were very much looking forward to our experience. However, when we entered, we were waiting almost 10 minutes to be greated and then seated at our table. After this things did not get any better. We were almost forgotten about at our table as the service was very slow and our waitress almost seemed annoyed that we were there. The food was great as ever but unfortunately the service really let us down this visit. We do frequent cotes quite often and were excited to take our family but we were lady feeling disappointed. A real shame.

Beautiful place, lovely setting, but unfortunately a bit slow, first hiccup was they brought out non alcoholic beer with we asked for the alcohol one. Then we waited ages for the starters.. then we waited ages for our main and we needed to ask where it was in the end! The food came and they brought out the wrong meal for one of us! Meant to be chicken turned out it was pork! It was a good job that we wasn’t allergic to pork! Or even religious! When we did get the food though it was nice! But after waiting so long you just don’t feel hungry as you go past it.

We always look forward to dining at Cote; as usual we experienced good attentive service but it was the first time my main course arrived cold although my husband’s and the ‘sides’ were hot - obviously my plate had been left standing - an issue of timing I suppose

The staff are so lovely I need to make that clear. I did ask for a window seat a week before but that was fine. The only thing I would say is the main came out way to quickly before we had finished our starter but that’s it. Amazing we love it and will definitely go again

Execellent, once again. Attentive and friendly staff, lovely setting (a window seat to view the early evening sun on the cathedral) and very good food. The early evening set menu represents very good value and allows a perfect pre-theatre dinner.

Efficient service and excellent value for money, taking advantage of the pre-7pm set menus. Seated on the first floor with a view of the cathedral, even on a grey, wet evening was delightful.

3 breakfasts with poached eggs all eggs hard, 2 returned and fresh breakfasts received after a long wait only to find a HAIR in my mushrooms. This was supposed to be a birthday breakfast with friends but due to egg issues meant we did not eat all together, not the morning we’d wanted. We do enjoy going to Cote but the breakfasts lately have been very poor. Think the kitchen staff need a talking too.

Food and service were very good. However, having eaten previously at another branch, I booked the restaurant because it has a good value 3 course Prestige Set Menu which includes both meat and fish main course options, as my sister cannot eat fish. I was very disappointed that two of the six main courses were unavailable at 7.30pm " because it's a busy Easter holiday week" , with no alternative substitutions offered. We were therefore obliged to choose from the a la carte menu, (which also had unavailable options) and consequently paid much more than we had intended. I felt that the restaurant should have planned better for an obviously busy period and offered alternatives when they ran out. I will hesitate before eating at a Cote Brasserie restaurant again, as it marred an otherwise positive experience, which could have been easily remedied.

Booked for valentine's Day ,starter came within 15 mins then a long wait for the mains to come. The steak was completely over cooked and was sent back !! However on the second time it was perfect. However my partner had chicken which looked nice but the end of the breast was not partially cooked it was raw.If this was found before we would have walked out. However you are lucky to have such a good manager who was very helpful to say the least .We do use this restaurant frequently, but felt a bit let down by the standards on valentine's Day .

Tuna nicoise was OK but should have been half the size and twice as thick to get it a proper medium rare. You have done it before really well but not this time.

We do enjoy a meal at Cote. As we travel around we always seem to pick a town with a Cote Brassiere but home is Exeter. Today was my 66th birthday and my partner treat me to lunch. She enjoyed the scallops followed by Chicken grille whereas I had the chicken liver parfait followed by Beef bourguignon and creme brulee. All were perfect. The service was warm and friendly. We enjoyed our meal.

Front door being kept open when large parties were coming in ... not great. We were near the window and it was cold. Wine was warm. We had to ask for ice cube to go in the wine.. not great.. that happened last time we were there to be honest. Veg portions small. Steak great but chips cold. Service good.

We arrived and were taken to our table on the first floor. We were not too close to the windows,it was cold and snowing outside but had a lovely view of the cathedral. We were meeting friends for a celebration. We had a beef bourguinon, duck, fillet steak and goat cheese salad with a variety of sides. All were excellent. Deserts and coffees followed these were good too. Service, we were not kept waiting at all . We frequently eat at Cote. We like the atmosphere and ambience. Whichever Cote we eat in whetheer it is Exeter or Birmingham or Salisbury or Clifton, Cirencester, the food service and ambience are consistantly good
