Côte - St Martin's Lane

I'm a frequent visitor to this restaurant. I often travel on my own and feel very comfortable dining there alone. It was nearly empty when I arrived and I had wait a few minutes before I was greeted and shown to a table which was very unusual. People who arrived after me had their orders taken before me which again is very unusual.

Had my usual meal of Steak Frites plus Creme Caramel. But both me and my companion wer disappointed by the steak. It was Quite tough and chewy and seemed different to all the previous times that we have eaten it. The waitress was excellent and offered to bring us something different but we declined as it wasn’t unbeatable. We asked if it was the usual steak and she said they had changed suppliers. We were pleasantly surprised when the waitress brought us a reduced bill. I will go back because the situation was handled so well but might avoid the steak next time.

Fast, friendly service at great price. The food was well -prepared and delicious. We ate chicken, risotto, white bait and apple roquefort salad! All for 12.95 per person! A reservation was needed as busy pre theatre crowd.

We had an amazing meal, as always. The staff didn't rush us, even though they were busy and were apologetic that the meal we wanted had run out and gave us an alternative with a discount. I advise you to sign up to the website- there are regular offers and we enjoyed a complimentary, refreshing G&T each today. Excellent restaurant for meeting with friends, or a romantic evening with a loved one. Highly recommended.

A great night out with friends, plus very good service.

Great menu - Service extremely poor - waitress had no interest - did not engage at all. Meal took a long time to come and we were going to the theatre - had to eat quickly which spoiled it for us.

We arrived 15 minutes early and were immediately shown to our lovely table by the window. The complementary bottle of wine for signing up to there newsletter was good quality and graciously provided. The calamari starter was large and really tasty as were our main courses. My husband’s fish stew was wonderful value for money full of muscles. The staff were efficient, courteous and friendly despite the restaurant being very busy due to the Pride March. I would recommend the restaurant wholeheartedly

Adam, our main table rep was totally outstanding from the moment we arrived till we left. The booking we made was in order, and efficiently taken, drinks were brought promptly, and orders taken accurately. The table we were allocated was highly appropriate to the group, comfortable seating, good decor and pleasant unobtrusive music. All the dishes were prepared to the highest standards by the chefs, and staff were good, with none of the over-insistent querying whether the food was good (no need as Cote food is invariably good. Overall pricing was very reasonable. Our thanks to Adam, the chefs and the serving staff. Good location.

Food good, service good until we wanted to pay and then we had a job getting someone to bring us the bill and were kept waiting for change as we'd paid in cash because the waitress 'couldn't open the till'

We've been here many times now and never been disappointed. I was excited to see lobster on the menu for July and had the Lobster Frites which was very good indeed. The staff are always welcoming, efficient and friendly no matter how busy the restaurant gets.

The food was really good but the service a bit slow, maybe because we were served by about five different people. The noise levels were too high making the conversation a bit difficult

We selected from the pre-theatre menu for July ( we were there on 3.7.19) I chose fish cake with poached egg and spinach. Inexplicably eggs were NOT AVAILABLE! ! Eggs are. not difficult to procure. ..... I decided to accept extra spinach instead but when my meal was served there was very little spinach and I had to ask for the extra serving. The service in your restaurants is usually so very good that I feel it important to report an unexpected and unwelcome fall in your usual standards.

Prompt ,friendly service. Food quality and quantity above expectation. Pleasing that tap water available and replaced without delay. Only slight downside was the time taken to obtain the bill! Overall a very good experience, one to be repeated.

Good , standard Cote fare but it can be incredibly noisy at lunch time. WE were meeting up for a catch up and conversation was often difficult. Shame because all other aspects are more than acceptable.

I organised a group lunch for 20 people. The pre-ordering arrangements worked brilliantly so that each course was served to each person by name. Service was excellent: quick, helpful, pleasant and polite. The quality of the food was very good. We dined in a private room on the lower ground floor - a bit noisy, caused by our conversations, but well worth it for the privacy. I recommend Cote St Martin's Lane highly. Thank you very much to the staff who were so helpful.

Excellent staff and service but no poached eggs with the fishcake. We were given a few spinach leaves as a substitute. Disappointed and not the usual Cotê standard - my local is Farnham.

Excellent food and excellent service. We very much enjoyed our meal.

Booked on 11 June to for a table for 7 people on 2 July at 5.30. We arrived in plenty of time. We had a show to see so would have to leave by 7.15. The waiter seemed inexperienced and had a strange laid-back attitude! There wasn't any cider available or elderflower cordial, which some of our party had enjoyed in June. The starters were fine but then we had a really long wait for our main courses. Meanwhile other tables which arrived after us got served, finished and left. Our main course didn't arrive until 6.50-ish. We had to eat very fast. The creamed spinach was cold so got taken off the bill. I was very disappointed so found the Front of House and requested a discount which she readily gave. A couple of weeks ago I ate at your Tavistock Street branch, again before a theatre trip, without any problems at all. What a shame that our long awaited event was marred by inadequate staffing levels at our pre-theatre meal. None of us will eat at this branch again. (Also the ladies toilets were in a dirty state and insufficient to cope with the customer numbers.)

Excellent service. I had booked a table for 2 for a pre-theatre meal but my friend was delayed. I ordered my meal which was served promptly and they took my friends order as soon as she arrived. A third friend then joined us for a drink and they found a chair for her straight away. the restaurant was very busy with pre-theatre customers but the service was excellent.

Incredibly noisy and too warm. Onion soup too strong; good mellon and ham. Salmon tasty but poorly flavored ratatouille. Steak tasty although minimally sized. Ordinary fries, not crisp or flavorful. Good bread and olives. Decaf coffee too bitter; espresso weak. Would not return. Unpleasant atmosphere, too crowded to enjoy a meal.

Very good food and service. Really I recommend this restaurant! And good value.

All good. A little too warm and stuffy, could do with better aircon/ventilation.

Booking process easy. Nice welcome from gentleman and blonde lady serving was lovely. Politely asked a dark haired lady to take a photo which she said one sec and didn’t come back for 15 mins which was too late as our meals were devoured by then and moment had gone. Overall experience good and service charge is high but I guess it’s in line with London price service charge. Can’t grumble as price as we went for 3 courses for 19.95

Every member of staff were very attentive patient with warm smiles , must also say the manager was also very helpful.

I chose Piquant Chicken which was most disappointing. When the plate was put in front of me my immediate thought was that this looked as though it had been pre cooked and left waiting around. The chicken was very dry and the beans also. Very little rocket and 2 tiny tomatoes comprised the salad. Overall a very disappointing meal, most of which was uneaten. The guests accompanying me were satisfied with the sea bream they chose, but since I had suggested your restaurant it was embarrassing to have to make a complaint which I did at the time. One of my party said the potatoes were undercooked with the sea bream and also the asparagus in the starter was undercooked and difficult to cut. Service was average. The sparkling water at beginning of meal was forgotten and we had to remind the waiter. Restaurant and quite noisy.

You can always rely on Cote for a delicious, well priced and speedy pre-theatre meal. The food and service are consistently good and although the restaurant can be noisy - because it is popular and therefore busy - I like the buzz and ambience.
