Great food, great service, what more can you ask for?

Excellent service and excellent, tasty food and drink which the whole party enjoyed. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to offer a larger fillet steak in addition to the one supplied. I had the fillet steak and thoroughly enjoyed it, however the 5oz portion was very small, if an 8oz or 10oz fillet had been available I personally would have been prepared to pay the extra.

Superb food and the server absolutely wonderful , so friendly and entertaining. Would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal, reasonably priced too. Special mention has to go to the waitress, note to the owner she is a real gem you don’t want to let her go . Amazing service

This is a small place with a fairly short menu but a great deal of love and care had gone into everything. The food was really delicious and beautifully presented and the service couldn't be faulted. We'll definitely be back, if we can get a table! Book ahead if you can.

Would go back, but order from the main menu. Had the “set”menu, but portions seemed to be smaller, which I can only assume was because they needed to bring it in at a certain price .

Really disappointed to be honest. Had saved myself for it. But came away unsated . Food was unremarkable. Very ordinary pate. Tiny portion of steak which was at best tepid. I’m being kind. It was cold. whereas the 8 chips were straight out the fryer hot. Half a tomato and a few mushrooms. Sticky toffee pudding was bland and no sauce. Underwhelmed I’m afraid. Slow service.

After doing my homework on trip advisor I’m so pleased we decided to book this restaurant. The host was the owner as the usual front of house waitress was on holiday and we found him very friendly and chatty but not overbearing. The food was excellent we both had the same meal which was the garlic prawn starter, steak and sticky toffee pudding, all of which were straight out of the top drawer. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium, the chips were homemade and delicious, the mushrooms beautiful too. I noted that the couple next to me stated that the Panna cotta was the best they had ever tasted including Michelin starred restaurants they had eaten in. The host invited us to his masterclass in Malton on weekend of December 7-8th and we will go and see him there. Overall I could not fault any aspect of the experience and for a total bill of £70 with a bottle of very decent red to boot I felt a bit like Dick Turpin!!

From the moment we arrived we experienced excellent service. I am very happy we had a reservation as it’s the type of restaurant you walk past and know you want to eat there. I couldn’t fault the overall experience, it was fantastic. I would love to dine there a second time and was unable to as we only had an overnight stay in York.
