Food was really good, but let down by the amateurish service. Although we found the colourful launguage exchange between the waitress and chef coming from the kitchen funny, some people may have been offended.
Lovely food - but only go when you're hungry if you want the superb steak pie! Fine selection of ales. Attentive and pleasant staff. What more could you want!
Excellent service and food well worth a visit. Staff were very helpful and a lovely atmosphere. Good variety on the menu too and drinks were reasonably priced.
Fabulous food, good value and friendly staff. Also flexible with our young children. We will go back again I'm sure. We were very full at the end.
Fab food, great atmosphere, friendly helpfull staff. Visited here last year and could not wait to return. Will definatley recommend to friends visiting the York area. We travelled from the other side of York to eat here.
The food was really great, as usual and the service was attentive and efficient. A good choice of dishes. The steak pie is always a good choice. Our friends enjoyed the meal very much and we will return.
Lovely bar setting, good food and friendly service - what more can you ask for - well it is also dog friendly and takes the Gourmet Card and the discount make it even more value for money
Warm welcome, super new menu and good choice of wines. A great country pub with excellent food and a decent car park. Do try the bread and butter pudding with white chocolate. It's not too sweet or rich and rounds off a lovely meal.
Great tasting food. Great menu, I could have eaten anything and I am a fussy eater. Perfect setting, really nice and friendly staff. We will definitely be returning again and again!
We had a long time to wait for our food and it was a rather disappointing lunch. The bar was very quiet. The staff were quite helpful when we queried the delay.
Very good food - from the fine side of cooking e.g. Twice cooked cheese soufflés - to more standard fare done very well and with finesse e.g. Lamb chops, gammon God choice of wine, good draught ale and good service.
Food was fab as always. Can't fault the warm welcome from all staff. Looking forward to the beer festival they have arranged this coming July !!
Really accessible (halfway between Wetherby and York). The bar is very welcoming, our room was very clean and comfortable, the food was excellent (massive portions!) and the service from all staff was superb. Very pleased and will definitely return.
I thoroughly enjoyed the chequers Inn food was fantastic and will definitely be going again. The service there was so welcoming and the place itself had a homely feel to it
The staff always make you very welcome. Lovely food, a good choice on the menu and good service. We always enjoy a visit to the Chequers.
Excellent service, great atmosphere and good food. Quality of food achieved by using fresh local ingredients and accompanied by great local beers and well priced wines
Another lovely meal at The Chequers. The quality of the food was excellent. I had salmon on a pea and mint risotto, which was delicious. The warm mushroom, cheese and crouton salad to start was excellent, too. The menu choice is great here and there were several dishes we all decided sounded tempting. I couldn't resist the salted caramel tart for dessert and would highly recommend it. Great service too and all at a reasonable price. We will come here again.
Atmosphere, location food accommodation 1st class. More importantly served with a smile. Strongly recommended, check out Sunday lunch too hard to be beaten and great value for money.
Lovely Sunday lunch really generous portions and quality well cooked produce. Too full for pud unfortunately as the delights passing our table looked impressive. Worth a try
Plenty of parking, welcoming, nice atmosphere, excellent staff and reasonably priced good food. Will certainly visit again. They also do themed dinners and the fish evening looks excellent.
Great food and service. This is a lovely country pub, where you are made to feel very welcome. The food is varied, interesting and good value. The ambience is lovely. We chose from the special menu and the regular one and we weren't disappointed. The pork and haggis fritters was delicious and the sweet potatoes that accompanied it were very tasty. The roast Guinea fowl was excellent too. The burger, chips and onion rings was very tasty indeed - lots of beautifully cooked chips and a choice of cheese with the burger. We were too full to have dessert, so we will have to return and sample those.
An enjoyable meal with plenty of choice for Coeliacs (i.e. me). My wife and I had different dishes and we both found each course well prepared and presented and tasted delicious. I believe ingredients are locally sourced where possible. Service was friendly and relaxed. Price about right for the quality.
Just visited the Chequers, had the Sunday lunch menu, food was perfect, service was great and a really good, cosy atmosphere made it a great afternoon!!
Very friendly, good service, good pub food. Large portions! A bit pricey for pub food, but not ridiculous. Steak was cooked medium when rare requested, but still good.
Food was good and service excellent and timely. The menu had a wide selection and overall was good value for money. The on line booking was quick and effective.
Great food and excellent service in a beautiful village. They are really accommodating to everyone's needs. Will most definitely be booking again and will recommend to friends and family.
First time at this restaurant and was very pleased. I went with my wife and 2 children and the setting was lovely. The food was very good and the portion sizes were very generous and reasonably priced. I went on a Sunday evening and they only do a Sunday lunch menu mainly of a roast type for mains but various starter options. I will definitely be going back to try out the full menu at some point in the near future.
Thre was a Good choice on the menu, the staff were friendly and the service was very quick. We had a nice relaxing meal and enjoyed the atmosphere.
A gloomy day what better way to cheer yourself up than by having a wonderful Sunday lunch at the chequers inn, large portions, good service, welcoming atmosphere and great value for money..will definitely be repeating the experience again!!!
Fabulous day to visit. Food was tasty and plentiful. Staff were attentive but not in your face which was lovely. Service was timely and presentation was super. All in all a fabulous meal.
My husband rated the Sunday roast highly but I was not as keen. The dessert was particularly disappointing. Toilets were not very clean either. Cleanliness really should be a priority when serving food. Staff were however very polite and helpful.
Lovely friendly welcome when we arrived. Quick efficient service at the bar. Our order was taken from a table we were sat at in the bar and then shown to our table when our starters were ready. Food was well presented and of excellent quality. Service staff were very good and helpful with any requests we had. We will most certainly return.
Lovely Sunday lunch, food was amazing, we all enjoyed it, staff were good and helpful, would definitely return to eat there again, and a bonus of a 25% voucher for visiting
A lovely sunday lunch. Lots of choices for each course on the menu and you can choose to have one, two or three courses. Excellent value.
We visit the Chequers on quite a regular basis and are never disappointed. Friendly, polite staff and great food and service - keep on doing this and we'll be back for more!
Have been back here time and time again because the food is excellent. Service is spot on. It was unfortunate that grandparents had 3 extremely noisy boys in the restaurant which spoiled our Sunday lunch.
This is the second time I have eaten Sunday lunch here at the Chequers. Great food with excellent service in a fabulous location. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere, excellent food, very warm welcome. Highly recommend if you're looking for good quality pub food. The portions are generous, we ordered starters and couldn't finish our main courses. We'll definitely be going back and recommending to friends!
This was the first time I have visited this pub in a Sunday for lunch I thought the food was good and the service was fine
Excellent food, well presented and at a very reasonable price.. Very convivial surroundings and attentative staff. The whole experience was one which we will repeat.
A wonderful evening - excellent food and ambience. The menu has enough choice to suit all palettes and managed to delight the very different tastes of our party. Thoroughly recommend!
Nice country pub with a varied menu, excellent food and friendly staff. Good value for money with freshly cooked food, well worth a visit if your in the area
Brilliant food and beer (beef was perfect). Bit difficult to park in when it was busy but will 100% be returning for another sunday roast.
Food took a long time to arrive, burger was nice but not exceptional and friends steak was more grissel than meat. Wine was a bit sharp and beer not 100%. Also felt like we were being pushed out at 10pm and a larger choice of coffee would've been good.
Can recommend the food been before . Took friends who haven't and they were very impressed . The food was good , puddings excellent . Staff very professional and attentive . Overall a very nice Saturday afternoon out .
This was our 2nd visit and cannot fault the food and service. Sons birthday and he enjoyed his lamb chop & Bakewell tart. Will visit again soon
Small, friendly restaurant. Helpful staff and good food. Nothing too much trouble and just attentive enough without being overbearing. Very reasonably priced too! We will definitely visit again.
Very high quality food and a lovely pub. The portions were very generous and to be honest the quality of the cooking was a very pleasant surprise. Good value overall.
This is a little gem, hidden away, but well worth the find ! The food is amazing and not too over facing, and the price is just right :-)
Wonderful food, excellent service and delightful ambience. A lovely evening out with friends and we will definitely return. The wine list is impressive and our choice very enjoyable.
