Food was really good, but let down by the amateurish service. Although we found the colourful launguage exchange between the waitress and chef coming from the kitchen funny, some people may have been offended.

Lovely food - but only go when you're hungry if you want the superb steak pie! Fine selection of ales. Attentive and pleasant staff. What more could you want!

Warm welcome, super new menu and good choice of wines. A great country pub with excellent food and a decent car park. Do try the bread and butter pudding with white chocolate. It's not too sweet or rich and rounds off a lovely meal.

We had a long time to wait for our food and it was a rather disappointing lunch. The bar was very quiet. The staff were quite helpful when we queried the delay.

Very good food - from the fine side of cooking e.g. Twice cooked cheese soufflés - to more standard fare done very well and with finesse e.g. Lamb chops, gammon God choice of wine, good draught ale and good service.

Really accessible (halfway between Wetherby and York). The bar is very welcoming, our room was very clean and comfortable, the food was excellent (massive portions!) and the service from all staff was superb. Very pleased and will definitely return.

Another lovely meal at The Chequers. The quality of the food was excellent. I had salmon on a pea and mint risotto, which was delicious. The warm mushroom, cheese and crouton salad to start was excellent, too. The menu choice is great here and there were several dishes we all decided sounded tempting. I couldn't resist the salted caramel tart for dessert and would highly recommend it. Great service too and all at a reasonable price. We will come here again.

Great food and service. This is a lovely country pub, where you are made to feel very welcome. The food is varied, interesting and good value. The ambience is lovely. We chose from the special menu and the regular one and we weren't disappointed. The pork and haggis fritters was delicious and the sweet potatoes that accompanied it were very tasty. The roast Guinea fowl was excellent too. The burger, chips and onion rings was very tasty indeed - lots of beautifully cooked chips and a choice of cheese with the burger. We were too full to have dessert, so we will have to return and sample those.

An enjoyable meal with plenty of choice for Coeliacs (i.e. me). My wife and I had different dishes and we both found each course well prepared and presented and tasted delicious. I believe ingredients are locally sourced where possible. Service was friendly and relaxed. Price about right for the quality.

First time at this restaurant and was very pleased. I went with my wife and 2 children and the setting was lovely. The food was very good and the portion sizes were very generous and reasonably priced. I went on a Sunday evening and they only do a Sunday lunch menu mainly of a roast type for mains but various starter options. I will definitely be going back to try out the full menu at some point in the near future.

My husband rated the Sunday roast highly but I was not as keen. The dessert was particularly disappointing. Toilets were not very clean either. Cleanliness really should be a priority when serving food. Staff were however very polite and helpful.

Lovely friendly welcome when we arrived. Quick efficient service at the bar. Our order was taken from a table we were sat at in the bar and then shown to our table when our starters were ready. Food was well presented and of excellent quality. Service staff were very good and helpful with any requests we had. We will most certainly return.

Have been back here time and time again because the food is excellent. Service is spot on. It was unfortunate that grandparents had 3 extremely noisy boys in the restaurant which spoiled our Sunday lunch.

Food took a long time to arrive, burger was nice but not exceptional and friends steak was more grissel than meat. Wine was a bit sharp and beer not 100%. Also felt like we were being pushed out at 10pm and a larger choice of coffee would've been good.
