Bird in Hand

Service and food was top notch - excellent! We had Sunday lunch, the food is beautifully presented and well prepared - good value for money.

I've eaten at Bird in the Hand many times before and always loved the food and received a warm welcome. Unfortunately this visit was on Mother's Days and my parents first visit to the Bird in the Hand. I'd have to say whilst the food and staff were still lovely as always it was very apparent the staff were rushed off their feet. I'd made our table reservation many weeks before our visit so I was very disappointed to find they had to move one of the smaller bar tables into the restaurant to accommodate us. Even worse we were squashed up against wall with a huge plant hanging over us also swallowing my father. After 10 minutes at the table we decided it would be a much more pleasant experience if we went back into the less crowded bar and ate there. I won't let this experience put me off but have to say I'll think twice before choosing to eat out on Mother's Day again.

We thought the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was excellent. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

We where well looked after from the beginning. Great service, polite and friendly giving plenty of time to choose from the menu. The food was amazing, especially the liver dish. Good menu not to much to choose from but very good variety. Thank you

Our overall experience was excellent. Food was as good as the last time I went. The service was spot on too. We will be back!

If you want excellent food and faultless service this is the place to go. Would have scored 5 but for the noise levels that made conversation a challenge, prepare to project your voice but the food will not disappoint.

Really great Sunday roast and lots of choice - service was good despite the pub being busy. Just a shame we didn't have more room for dessert!

Lovely food, and great atmosphere. waitresses were very friendly, and food came our in good time. Will definitely come again. Good value for money also.

Lovely atmosphere and good food. Restaurant is set out really well and plenty of space. We were told by staff that toddlers aren't really welcome in the evenings as they disturb other guests, but it's so loud in there that a toddler would make no difference.

Very friendly helpful service and a nice welcoming atmosphere throughout the restaurant. I had the halloumi starter, which I would give a 4/6 as it needed to be a little bit less well-cooked to be ideal. For the main course, I had the hake & chips which was very good. A very pleasant evening and I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Small point, it would be useful to have a post in the car park to which one could chain a bicycle.

Fabulous meal and great service. We thought there was so much choice to cater for everyone. One of our party has allergies and the staff made sure to double check Our order.

The food was excellent as was the service. It feels like a step forward from the similarly excellent Red Lion in Horsell in terms the menu feels a bit more modern rather than sticking to the tried and tested. Would certainly recommend

Amazing food, great service . There was a big party of people in and the manager took money of our bill as he said the service wasn't as quick as he would have liked for us because of the party. Lovely staff. Would definitely recommend but you need to book as so popular!

Food and service excellent which is exactly what you're paying for. We will definitely return and highly recommend. You do have to go through the pub to get to the restaurant but they are clearly separated.

First time in this pub/restaurant and would certainly return. The venue is lovely, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good (we had starters and mains only). Only reason I haven't given it the full score is because I didn't really enjoy my burger, which tasted a bit strange to me, but my sister enjoyed hers! Overall a very nice place for a relaxed lunch.

great food, service and atmosphere on a mid-week night. Good selection on the menu and specials boards. We all loved our first visit here and will certainly be back. If I was to be over-critical I would say that the food description and presentation is a bit "overly-fancy" for me. oh how chefs love to swizzle their Jus! - however cant fault the food which was top quality.

Lovely atmosphere, open fires, great menu, really accommodating for little kids, friendly, warm and cosy. Had a great lunch. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good pub lunch.

Very good meal and service on a busy Saturday evening. Only adverse point, our table was just outside of the main restaurant area but it didn't really make a lot of difference

Great place, good atmosphere, good service and good food. Very relaxing. Online booking service made it so easy. Bottle of tap water was given as standard at the start of the meal which is great when you have children.

As soon as we walked into the Bird in hand the noise really hit us and it didn't get any better. We were with friends and couldn't have a conversation. We had to wait an hour for our food. The service was poor. This was our first and our last visit! Very disappointing!!!

The Bird in Hand is local to us and its upgrade two years ago was very welcome. We have eaten there a few times and always thought the food was very good. Our experience on Saturday night did nothing to change our mind about the quality and presentation of the dishes served. The décor is charming and the seating comfortable. Service was also generally very good. The only downside for us was that the restaurant was very noisy and, given that this was our Valentine's meal, it was often hard to hear each other talk! I'm not sure much can be done about this but, sadly, it will probably prevent us eating in the restaurant again. Fine for birthday parties, not so good for couples.

Have been here many times and as always great food, reasonably priced and friendly staff although potato with calves liver was very salty. Would recommend to friends.

Great food, Lobster and Steak Dianne were wonderful, shame about the atmosphere, the place is too noisy. Hard floors and walls plus music up too loud.

Fantastic food and great atmosphere! Expresso Martinis are the best I've had. Menu is not extensive but a good variety , well presented and delicious. Staff are friendly and professional. My only fault with it is that I can't walk there!

We took an elderly aunt to the Bird in Hand and had a lovely time. The ambiance was very pleasant, the staff welcoming and the meal was great. One had a burger which was very good and two of us had bubble and squeak with gammon and egg and this was delicious - would highly recommend it. We also had banana split for dessert which again was delicious, served with icecream, a strawberry and a chocolate sauce.

Lovely atmosphere and the food gets better and better! Have been several times and service and food have improved every time. Would recommend it to anyone.

Delicious food, the staff were really helpful friendly and efficient! No long waits to be served! Need to book as the restaurant gets booked up! You can eat in the pub itself if you cannot get a table in the restaurant!

Dinner for 4 on a Thursday evening for my son's birthday. Excellent service, food quality very good, I can highly recommend that 'aged' steaks which we like rare, they were cooked to perfection. All staff very welcoming and attentive and sorted out the birthday cake and candles we brought with us! Very pleasant evening in comfortable surroundings. Highly recommended.

Came here for a Sunday birthday lunch. The food was delicious but not child orientated and service was very slow for such a small restaurant.

Table location very noisy.Table cleared 45 mins after booking time. Service whilst bouncy was slow ,viz tables being reset rather than responding in a timely to service request.

Very busy and menu choice limited but this could be because there is a separate Christmas menu now. Food very good although lack of serving staff caused long delays between courses. Very noisy in the restaurant but would go back

The staff were courteous and knowledgeable about the menu which is innovative with surprising mixes of ingredients. The meal was excellent, well presented and worth every penny. Recommended.

The roast was excellent, the sweet wonderful, and the service very good. Very good value for money. The bar and restaurant are very noisy, although we went on a Sunday which was super busy.

Service was lovely, staff are great, and the sunday roast offering is lovely definitely a place to go at the weekend with family or friends, do make sure you book!

Good food nicely presented. The whole experience was better than expected since the change of management. Well worth a try for Sunday lunch, we will return.

Everything was OK, just OK. A nice night out, nothing special. Which means everything: food, service and ambiance could do with improvement. Awkward moment: after our main course they took away our plates, we had finished our food and drinks, and then we waited... at an empty table...
