Durham's restaurants have real heritage
The city is known amongst foodies for being the birthplace of that English condiment classic; mustard! Fiery mustard seeds were first ground in Saddler Street in the eighteenth century. Today, the area is still renowned for its food scene, with artisan bakers and farmers, award-winning cheese makers, microbreweries and fine bakers. Why not combine a visit to one of the many restaurants in Durham with a trip to the local farmers' markets, food festivals or county farm shops? The Bishop Auckland Food Festival is a good place to start, and it's held every April.
